BMW 1-series coupe M-sport package for Euro-only diesels

Buyers abroad who've opted to equip their BMW 1-series coupe with diesel power now have the option to smack down a few euros on the table for some M-sport kit. The 120d and 123d models can now pack the same visual punch as the 135i, complete with M-specific 17-inch alloys wrapped in 205/50 rubber in the front and 225/45 gumballs in the rear. The package also includes new front and rear fascias, and naturally, there's plenty M-badging to differentiate it from its more sedate siblings. The cost for the additional bits runs 3,300 euros for the 120d and 2,100 euros for the upgraded 123d.

you'll definitely see this car on MTV's "My Sweet 16" very often , but i think a lot of older people who remember bmw's of the 80's and earlier would really love this car too.
Doogs 12:39PM (11/06/2007)
All three.
Or do you not realize that any hot, new, not-Porsche expensive car will snapped up by spoiled teenagers?

Dear BMW: Import the 123d 5-door, please.
Perhaps if I say it enough, it'll happen...

So you pay more than EUR3,000 for what? "Visual punch", ...wheels and badging? I thought that M-sport meant something else. I guess I'm wrong.

Haha... so they're not going to just hollow out and degrade the BMW brand with the 1-series, they're also going to hollow out and degrade their own high-performance tuning mark.
Audi A1 and BMW 1 series - who will win the race to the bottom? Considering that everyone has already blown their HELOCs on all the other fake luxury items in the US, I think it's safe to call them both losers.
Finally, in answer to your question, I would hardly call someone "spoiled" who is driving this little go-kart. Your whole assumption is based on the previous cachet of the BMW brand, but that's the whole point - the brand means _nothing_ now. BMW no longer means spoiled. That's what happens when you dilute a brand.

No. Wrong. The 1-Series won't dilute/degrade the brand. It's not some cheap box with a roundel badge thrown on (cough...318ti...cough). If anything, it's a throwback to what BMW used to be...an "ultimate driving machine" with a dash of luxury. Or as close a thing as we can get in this age of acronyms and techno-baubles. I mean come on - the 3-Series drivetrain in a smaller package? I'd hardly call that dilution. Especially considering the porkiness of the 3 as compared to previous generations.
And the M-Sport is a Euro-market package. Usually comprised of a body kit, maybe a meatier steering wheel and better seats. M-Sport =/= M.

Seriously-
Good point, bad example. I agree with Doogs all the way. The 1 series is nicely reminiscent of what BMW became famous for. If anything, it's bringing BACK tradition rather than getting rid of it.
However, Bmw might be diluting the brand if they seriously come out with a MB R-Class competitor/minivan or something like that.
As for the price, you still have to be pretty "spoiled" to get it. could you imagine paying almost $30k for the base-model of a car THIS SMALL from any other company??

@seriously I always thought of BMW as a performance car when I was growing up. It's kind of strange you bag on the brand for putting out their 3 liter engine in such a small package - who doesn't like driving small sports cars with a ton of power. You prefer the bulky 6 coupe or something?

Well, they already have the X truck series. Similar room to the Tourings, but worse handling/ride/performance/mpg. From a car standpoint, a bad deal. From a financial standpoint, they have done well. BMW is a business after all.
At least an R class equivalent would be roomier than the Touring. I'd consider an R class or the previously mentioned V class from BMW. Zero chance of an X as I don't do any off roading. And if I did I'd get a Jeep or Chevy anyhow.

Oh, my God. I absolutely want it. I love diesels.
I learned to drive on a '77 Rabbit diesel. It was a blast to drive. Gutless? No, it could beat anybody off the line, and get ahead of them for a short while. Ideal for city driving.
I loved that car.
The thought of a FAST diesel? Too cool.

This has to be one of the most terrible looking cars ive seen in awhile. Styling... terrible. Headlights look like bug eyes and the rear of the car is over dramatic with the trunk and just doesnt flow. Dont let me get started on the interior... why spend your money on this... makes not sense. Granted the engine is nice, but thats all you really have going for it besides the emblem of BMW on the front and back.... i guess u would buy this just to say you have a bmw.
Am i alone on this or is it just me?
