Spy Shots: 2008 Bullitt Mustang breaks cover

Right now as we speak, Ford is showing the 2008 Bullitt Mustang to a select group of automotive journalists in Dearborn, Autoblog included. The official info we take from this event is embargoed for a couple of days, at least until after Ford lets another group of select journalists, again Autoblog included, drive the Bullitt on the streets of downtown San Francisco (how appropriate). But until our First Drive of the 2008 Bullitt Mustang is published later in the week, we can show you this spy shot taken by a reader of MustangBlog.com in northern California. Click here to view a high-res shot and here to see another pic of what appears to be a Mustang similar to the Bullitt but in red.

I’m sorry, but remind me again why this car is being so hyped up…
I really must be missing something.

You must have missed it. This one's green with a different tacky badge and different (yawn) stripes than the other ones.
There's no question that this thoroughly modern autombile deserves to be marked up $5K over MSRP.

Before all you haters chime in, remember this is only Ford Motor Company's 4th Mustang model (V6, GT/CS, Bullitt, GT500).

You forgot the mustang V6 pony edition.
Christian 12:56PM (11/06/2007)
Uh its still the V6 model with 17s

I wouldn't be considered a hard core hater but I must say that I am frankly getting of tired of Ford only focusing on the Mustang and the F series trucks, neglecting everything else that seriously need attention such as ALL of the other cars they currently sell in NA.
All i can say is that it will be interesting to see the next few months when they finally realize that when it is too little too late.

What about the Escape, Edge, Fusion and Flex?
All four of those models are incredibly promising and a giant step it the right direction for Ford.
I know it may be a shock to you but the success or popularity of a vehicle isn't measured by how many hop-up kits or special editions are made for it.
tanooki2003 2:20PM (11/05/2007)
Heh you have got to be kidding me.
If anything the Fusion should be based on the Mondeo instead of a "Forded up" softer riding Mazda 6. The Flex is the equivalent to the Chrysler Imperial concept. It only appeals to a tiny percentage of the population. The refreshening of the Escape is an insult, not to mention slower than the previous year Escape. and the Edge...well the Edge is just Ford's attempt to stay with the current trend but not really setting any new ones.
By the way where in my statement did i say anything about hop-up kits? If anything i condone them and prefer the money to be spent on a new design team or investing into importing more european platforms.

"The Flex is the equivalent to the Chrysler Imperial concept."
Huh? The Imperial was a SEDAN the Flex is a CROSSOVER. Just like the crossovers from GM that are selling very, very well and appeal to more than a small percentage of the market.
The Fusion is one of the best sedans out there. It trails only the Accord in most reveiws and is applauded for its ride, handling and AWD option.
As for the Edge, they are selling as many as they can make. Right now the average turnover on an Edge is less than 5 days on a dealer lot.
You don't have to like the facts but you can't ignore them or make up "facts" just because you don't like the products.

Can someone please explain to me why in hell do all these companies even bother w/ the Mustang anymore? - I mean hell, this is now what the 500th "version" of the Mustang?
All these companies claim that their pos mod is somehow better then the rest, yet in reality, each and every single one of these Mustangs have identical interiors, exteriors and just some minor insignificant performance changes...
Be it Saleen, or ROUSH or anything else... its all identical crap - am I the only one not blind around here?

Guess you didn't see the first comment but this one's actually by Ford, not some "pos mod"
Michael La Framboise 1:35PM (11/05/2007)
@hc5duke - I know who its built by, but thats not my point - the point is that everyone (including ford) is just rebadging the same crap time and time again. I mean hell, take a stock Mustang, a ROUSH mustang, a BOSS mustang, a Saleen mustang or any other version of the mustang - just at a glance is there ANY difference between them? NO! - they all look identical, they all drive/handle near identical and the only big difference is the price of them
Carlos 1:48PM (11/05/2007)
@MLF -
Give me a break - A Saleen is a much different machine than a stock V6 Mustang.
You must hate muscle cars in general because thats what a Mustang is and guess what, its the most successful one. Millions of people love their mustangs for a reason.
I hate it when people want the Mustang to somehow be as light and nimble as a lotus, fast as a super car with the interior of a Bentley - its a freakin muscle car - get over it.
Michael La Framboise 1:53PM (11/05/2007)
Carlos, did I say ANYTHING about hating muscle cars, or that I want the mustang to be like a Lotus? - no - all I said was that 99% of the versions of the mustang provide very small, if any upgrades in performance/looks or anything else - yet each time every single one is being advertised as something brand new and unique.
Tagg 3:42PM (11/05/2007)
They build them because people evidently want them. If no one wanted them they would stop building them, plain and simple.
eddie 1:25PM (11/05/2007)
I agree with tanooki. Ford seems to be focusing on all of the wrong things (mustang, big trucks). Gm is doing almost everything right, while Ford is scewing up with the Taurus, Focus, every Lincoln and Mercury.
They really should be trying to bring the Mondeo or a FPV aussie car and focusing less on the high selling mustang. (the one high selling car they have)

SNORE! All show and no go.
G8 GT please.

This and all other non-v6 versions of the Mustang will DUST the G8 (yes including the GT Stang).
Matt 10:27PM (11/05/2007)
If the Mustang GT did somehow out-perform the G8 GT, which is something I'm not entirely willing to agree with just yet, keep in mind the G8 has a much nicer interior, I'd imagine a much nicer ride, and is more conventional. Not to mention at the same price point, and probably containing better gas mileage.
