LA 2007 Preview: Toyota to debut 2nd generation Sequoia
We're only a couple of weeks away from the LA Auto Show and the news floodgates are opening up. The latest comes from Toyota, which announced that it will officially debut the new second generation Sequoia SUV in Los Angeles. We aren't expecting any big surprises from the Sequoia since it's expected to be derived from the new Tundra pickup. Aside from the enclosed rear body and three rows of seats, the SUV will probably have an independent rear suspension. This will allow the floor to be lowered and for extra space out in the back forty. Unfortunately, we have no official images of the new Sequoia yet, but expect a big SUV with a Tundra nose.[Source: Toyota]

Only 24 hours away, and no leaked images of the new Corolla?

I can tell you a lot about the new sequoia. I have driven it and can tell you a lot of specs about it. It will have an independent rear end. It will feature a second row seat just like the Tundra Crew Max, thats adjustable and reclining. The 3rd row is a fold flat, with a power option on the Platinum edition. There will be 3 grades, the SR5, the Limited and The Platinum. The Platinum will have 20'' standard, along with heated for all 3 rows with cool seats in front. Ofcourse you know the engine options, but the 4wd will be a multi-mode with full time and part time. The only spec i have is the turning radius, which is 39'. If you have any other questions let me know.

Will there be a hybrid version?
Truck Champ 12:42AM (10/31/2007)
There is no word of a Hybrid yet. The rumormill is that they will eventually use the 4.7L with a hybrid drivetrain. But no official word yet. Everyone will be very amazed at how well the new Sequoia handles. It can manuver better than a 4runner which as you know is a mid-size. The inside is roomier, but the outside does not appear too much bigger than the current gen.

Hrm... "It also will be substantially more powerful and yet, significantly more fuel efficient." I wonder if this gives credence to the rumor of the Platinum trim being a hybrid...

The current Sequoia was getting a bit old. Hopefully it fares better than the Tundra in teething problems.

My crystal ball(s) predict the following:
It will be longer.
It will be wider.
It will be faster.
It will have more horse power.
It will weigh way more.
It will cost more .
It will have 'macho-er' styling .
It will have more cupholders.
It will be harder to park.
It will handle like a house.
It will have a back-up camera.
Anything else? It's a big fatso SUV. Done.

Can we also expect the same level of Toyota Tundra built "quality"?
hahaha I can't believe this day would come!
Where Toyotas quality could be in question.....as far as big rigs are concern.....

I would be quite happy if the new one is as reliable as my current sequoia. It has 160 k and is still running perfectly.

Thanks for the comment. I am willing to take your challenge any day. I can put down $1000 that I will smoke you as long as you have a std engine.
Russell 11:19PM (10/31/2007)
That was no challange, I simply stated my numbers.
Smoke me? I guess you would smoke me because I am the slowest driver on the road for reasons of conserving fuel. I rearly go over 50mph and it takes me 30 seconds to get to 30mph. You can argue with this but you cant argue with me getting 18mpg out of a big block 7.4 litre engine. I feel that trucks should not be about speed, but about longevity and ability. Youre happy with your vehicle and i am happy with mine.

Thanks for the clarification. From your first comment I felt that you were saying that your truck can outacclerate mine.
There are too many people on this board who are trying to throw dirt at Toyota. What they have to realize is that the biggest problem with GM is not Toyota. It is their management who made stupid decisions (such as paying 2 billion to Fiat so that they could back out of an agreement to buy Fiat) and destroyed the company.
The only way GM can succeed is to build better cars (I believe they are trying with the Chevorlet Malibu) and not more bad investments (such as spending money on developing an electric car such as the Volt that can go 40 miles on a full charge). They are not going to sell more cars by saying that Tundra is bad.
