Tokyo Motor Show: Toyota Hi-CT

Click the image above for a gallery of live and press shots of the Toyota Hi-CT.
Toyota's presence at the Tokyo Motor Show has been markedly unremarkable, with four concepts debuting that have done little to excite those of us in attendance. One of the more interesting, and to an extent, plausible models is the Hi-CT concept, which we originally described as the unholy union of a Mac truck and a locomotive. Seeing the Hi-CT in person provided a better perspective of what Toyota was after – namely an economical way of getting a couple of people to and fro along with their "active lifestyle" accoutrements. Of all the concepts shown by Toyota, the Hi-CT was one of our favorites, if for no other reason than it had a clear purpose that was thoughtfully and originally executed.
Our original post has more details and we've added a handful of live shots to our press pic gallery.

But where is the trailer hitch? (kidding)

Someone should tell Toyota not to shock people just because they can. Someone should have taken the pencil from the designers hand and replaced them with a box of crayons, he clearly is not old enough to be playing with sharp objects..........When Toyota's are referred to as appliances, it's because of creations like this, who on God's green earth would want to ride down the street on,in,ontopof, something so U-glee.

Almost all Japanese concepts are weird, this ones no different. It's not going to make it into production anyways so who cares how weird it is. I personally like Japanese cars but I hate their concepts because they are nothing more than exercises in "look at the weird stuff we can think up".

"Features a removable rear trunk and a deck where surfboards, bicycles and other equipment can be loaded."
Do we just imagine this? Is it in the pictures? Looks like it has a too small interior storage area and a too small exterior storage area. With regard to "active lifestyle", The Nissan trucklet with the mtb's I get; this I don't.

Sorry, the concept I was thinking of was from Daihatsu not Nissan.

Boy, I am in the exact opposite court. Their cars are appliances but their concepts are terrific.
If no one thinks out of the box, no one will ever progress beyond the box.
The Japanese culture is terrific for looking at 50 yr plans as opposed to the US looking at 5 yr plans, and the stock markets push for this quarter. That is why Honda and Toyota have made the progress they have made with their cars.

Isn't Hi-C Tea a drink?
alright, stupid joke, but in all seriousness, the concept could have been done a bit better, but in all honesty Toyota's bland design is part of their success, bland enough for the majority of people, ans some are exciting enough for a portion of sportier people.

Too squished, should have more trunk area. I would also expect a hitch, or extened bed with bike rack on it or something. Also, what are those two objects laying on the rear area? I can't figure them out.
