Tokyo Motor Show: 2008 Honda Fit gets Civic-minded makeover

Click the image above for a gallery of live and press shots of the new Honda Fit.
Honda's redesigned Fit was on the floor for all and sundry to kick tires, snap photos and enjoy the economy-class interior provided by the Big-H's sub-compact offering. Although the Fit apes the styling of the Euro-Civic, much of what's aft of the A-pillar will look familiar, with a few subtle tweaks to differentiate it from its predecessor. Powertrain choices include a 1.3- or 1.5-liter four, with an all-wheel-drive option.
Our previous post has all the details and the gallery below has a selection of live and press images.

Ah it looks like an EP!

It always looked like an EP. This new one looks like the current Euro market civic.

Wow, it looks so beautiful.

Just curious....is that sarcasm?
I'll be a bit more clear...they took an attractive small car and made it less attractive, boarderline ugly. Yikes!

Get off the ciga-weed Stone22. That thing is butt-ugly...

I see that they have a nice NON-OEM GPS display in the show's display model. It's sticks out like a sore thumb on this IP.
Is it just me, or does this dashboard look cheaper than the outgoing model? Gauges look basic compared to the US model that I remember during my test drives.

Heck, it looks a lot like a mini-Prius. In fact, if it had a Toyota badge on it, you could slip most of those images into a Prius story and no one would blink.

Give it a 1.3l turbo diesel and I've got my next commuter car.

In other words: it's not going to be your next commuter car.

Alexp: not necessarily. Honda is working on diesel engines for the US, including already announced ones for the Accord (2.2l) and the Pilot (3+l). I'm sure they'll have a small diesel for Europe, so with any luck they'll bring a version over here too in a couple years.

No spare tire? Run-flats or what?

I really liked the look of the outgoing Fit. This new one is just plain ugly!

I second this. I almost bought the outgoing Fit, but there's no way this would even make my list.

No run-flats. Likely just an onboard compressor and a can of tire goo... not entirely uncommon for vehicles in this class.

Is that a space for a nav on the dash?

I really like it, but the can of fix-a- flat isnt really going to fly after you have hit one of the potholes around here. There has to be a spare tire or run flats.

Honda:
Just make sure it has traction control, and you'll sell one to my mother in, oh, about 14 seconds.
