Forget about every other car you've read about at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. We were only here for one, the Nissan GT-R. Now that we've been seen the official specifications and the first batch of press photos, it's time to get up close and personal with this new Japanese supercar. While the rest of the global media was clamoring to get a decent shot of the sole GT-R officially on display at the show, Autoblog was given access to take photos of another GT-R hidden upstairs in an area usually reserved for VIPs. Enjoy these exclusive pictures and don't forget to check out our previous coverage on the GT-R. We're glad Godzilla's finally back.

Can someone over in Tokyo ask what the differences are between Base, Black, and Premium GT-R models?
And thanks for the up-close pics!

I am in love. Boxy and not too extreme looking, but still looks like its going to rip your head off. I don't really care about interiors anymore after my M3. The novelty wears off fast and all it does is impress chicks and since I am engaged ,heh, I dont need it.
JJ @ Oct 24th 2007 12:15PM
Sure this is a nice car, and sure its unproven performance may turn out to be impressive but in no way would I categorize, what is really a modified 350z, as a supercar.
Wally @ Oct 24th 2007 12:30PM
it doesn't share anything with the 350z. Do you know something to the contrary?
JJ @ Oct 24th 2007 12:39PM
Yes wally it shares the same chasis as the nissan fm cars, which is why the shape and basic geometry of the cars is the same as the g35, the 350 and the M series cars. Not that there is anything wrong with that as most car companies have common chasis nowadays. Lets just not take it out of context for what it is.

thanks for sharing your perspective on what a supercar is. To you anything suped up doesn't count. I agree to somewhat extent. I say this car has close to super car performance, it is just lacking the prestige and exclusivity of a Ferrari. Exclusivity is what costs the big bucks.
Wally @ Oct 24th 2007 1:28PM
Not trying to argue, trying to get the facts straight: According to Nissan the chassis is "Exclusive PM platform" which stands for "Premium Midship" and from what i have read is different from the "FM Platform" which stands for "Front Midship"

2004m3driver,
Not everyone cares about showing off their car to everyone else. The GT-R might not have the prestige or exclusivity of a Ferrari but that doesn't mean it's not a supercar, it just means it's not an exotic. This car is affordable and incredibly fast, and thats all that matters.
HotRodzNKustoms @ Oct 24th 2007 12:16PM
the front end looks too much like a a Celica made sweet sweet love to a 350Z and something about the line at the bottom of the door I just don't like. I think instead of hiring a 5 year old to design the front end they should have hired a 8 year old. 8 year olds know where it's at.
ignoring it's ugliness I am still toying with the idea of buying one. very fast for a real car, awd, 2+2 with what appears to be usable rear seats, and I think it is a usable everyday car
Justin @ Oct 24th 2007 12:19PM
Beautiful...I think I'm tearing up bit.
Hardly the same...but I just ran it in GT5 Prologue's demo...ecstasy, and thats just a video game.
acarter @ Oct 24th 2007 12:21PM
I generally like the GT-R but the front end styling is not it's strongest feature. It looks dated to me for some reason--a design that would appear in the late 90s. Now the rear styling is strong and masculine.
I am curious why they departed from the prototype which is much stronger...given the competition and price range.
Any thoughts?
SteveInRoppongi @ Oct 24th 2007 9:54PM
Leave it to the aftermarket Tuners to provide an agressive look to the GTR. Veilside should be the most radical.
Bennet Pullen @ Oct 24th 2007 12:22PM
That car has the most gorgeous engine bay I have ever seen...
Justin @ Oct 24th 2007 12:22PM
So...how long before some idiot with too much money and not enough skill/brains cracks one up and we all get to read about it...
while we all secretly wish we had at least had the opportunity to drive it at all.

I agree with hotrodz... the face should have been closer to the concept car and less like it molded some new headlights from the Nissan family parts bin.
My only gripe is that at $80k it most likely will not exhibit the build quality of its German counterparts (ie. e92m3, c63, and rs4). Although, it will most likely eat the audi and crap out the bimmer while chasing down the benz.
That center console really could have been an opportunity to explore some nice futuristic user interface designs. Instead it looks as banal as the navigation in my 2003 X5. I think something in amber color with some really inspired techno-organic designs would have been cool.
I realize they were going for something different and gran-turismo video game style, but they should have unleashed some great design potential. Like the guy who designs user interfaces for Sony and the Star Wars movies. I think the guy's site is "www.teknoel.com" or something like that.

Design.Another rendition of the g35 from Nissan.
Johnny Rotten @ Oct 24th 2007 12:31PM
I think I am going to start a class action suit against Nissan. This car is going to cause widespread priapism.
Wally @ Oct 24th 2007 12:35PM
I must be the only whack job out there that likes the interior. It looks understated, clean, and straight-forward.
Anyone know where to find the difference between the 3 trim levels?
Dan @ Oct 24th 2007 12:39PM
Ok, it looks like crap.
Now, how heavy is it?
