Cadillac will not race again next year

As the new 2008 Cadillac CTS hits the streets and the monster new CTS-V is still somewhere on the horizon, GM has decided to terminate the Cadillac Racing program with the close of the 2007 season. The current racing CTS-V will make its swan song appearance this weekend as the Speed World Challenge takes to the track at Laguna Seca. 2005 champion Andy Pilgrim is sitting in third place right now behind teammate Lawson Aschenbach in second and leader Randy Pobst. The team only needs to score one point to grab the manufacturer's title. The racing program may be revived after the second generation CTS-V launches later in 2008.

So are there any recent updates on what will be powering the new CTS-V?

Bit of ashame. I was treated to the lovely noise of the CTS-V engine and exhuast system at Long Beach in 2006. Wasn't quite prepared for it. Hanging over the wall at the hairpin when a champ Car goes past/under you is slightly uncomfortable on the ears, but that CTS-V is something else. A simply *epic* noise from it.

Launches later in 2008?
I've seen several driving around already.

You've seen the regular CTS driving around. The CTS-V will not be released until later next year.
why not the LS2/LS7? 1:20PM (10/20/2007)
That's too bad. Although I figure Cadillac doesn't really need it this year, with CTS sales afire and no CTS-V.
Pethaps GM will put the money (and staff drivers like Pilgrim and Angellelli) toward Pontiac racing this season. They've had decent success in racing the last couple years and as they to mold themselves into a true performance division, some more road race wins would help a lot.

Good choice. It's doubtful this gets them many additional sales, certainly not enough to justify the high cost. I've seen practically zero media coverage of Cadillac racing.

I always thought that racing was a good thing for Cadillac. GM will get a not for cred for their high performance cars by putting money into programs like the Corvette and Cadillac Racing than they are paying zillions to slap headlight sticker on an ugly ass "car of tommarrow" NASCAR special.

Did CTS race in any of the European touring car races, if not I think it would make more sense to race the CTS there. The racing would bring more brand recognition in that market and being in Europe the team could also assist in the development of the actual roadcar.

I sat next to Andy Pilgrim on a flight from NYC a few years ago, he is a really decent guy. Not any of the swagger you would expect from such a successful driver over so many years.

Poor World Challenge GT, losing so many competitors after this season. It will be interesting to see what the future of the series will be as this season was a bit of a debacle. I mean really, who stops a race halfway through to spin a wheel that alters the order of competitors in an event that counts in the points standings?
