Auction Action, Sin City Edition: Barrett-Jackson may hold auction in Las Vegas

Back in May we reported that Barrett Jackson was considering a move to Las Vegas after the Scottsdale city council refused to sell Craig Jackson the land he needed to build a permanent facility for his auction house. Nothing had been solidified after several meetings with Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, but Jackson claimed to have a very positive response from Sin City officials. Now it seems that an auction in Vegas will indeed happen. Daniel Strohl from Hemmings Auto Blogs posted a photo of credentials and an information packet with "Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas" on the cover. Whether or not it will replace or simply supplement the famous Scottsdale auction is unknown, but we'll find out on October 29th, probabaly at the SEMA Show, when Barrett-Jackson makes an official announcement. For the record, we're behind any proposal that gives us another reason to visit Vegas.

Hi all....first let me say that Barrett-Jackson has just about single handedly ruined the collector car market. They bring in investors...not collectors. We true collectors don't buy to turn them over and sell the next year, never having driven their purchases. Its just their way of making fast bucks. They are truly ruining the hopes of the next generation of ever getting a classis or antique car. Lucky for me I have over 40 cars that I would never sell as they will be handed down to my kids and grandkids with the clause they can never be sold, especially to out of the country buyer if they could sell them. I guess I was lucky as I started this passion of mine in the late 60's. So there you have me comments if you care to respond........and oh yes sex is still great at 65.......MMMmmmMMMMM

I can't say I'm surprised by this at all. I'm one of those weird obsessive people when it comes to the Barrett Jackson auction. I have taken time off from work to watch it. It's like that... superbowl... thing... is for people who like that... rugby... type... sport... thing. Man, I rule at analogies.
I was watching a behind-the-scenes on the BJCCA, and from what I saw there, they have been fighting with Scottsdale city council for years now. From things like, say, municipal water and sewer hookups, all the way to city council complaining about the amount of traffic and noise the auction brought to town. Honestly... traffic? Noise? It's bringing hundreds of millionaires and multi-millionaires to your town for five days. My hometown would probably be willing to sever digits to get an event like that to come to town, and they're complaining about the noise? Move to Vegas. BJCCA will be the quiet, geeky kid sitting in the corner by comparison. Maybe if they add some showgirls... ?

I still cannot beileve that some people have so much money to spend ... world is crazy, some people in country don't have enough to pay for their hospital visits and some would spend $140,000 on 1940 vehicle.
I end up watching these show because of amazingly maintained cars on display, but it's still makes me uncomfortable when someone pays exorbitent amount of money on them.

To each their own. Some people like myself don't gamble, smoke, or take over the top vacations two to three times a year and thus put that money towards things like cars and car collecting.

How about SEX, ever tried that? I mean with another humanbeing, or is that also too out there for you?

Hey but sex is free!!! For the most part at least as long as you know how to work it.

Las Vegas is antithetical to everything I like and/or love. The perfect analogy for modern America- a fake town forged for fake people forcing themselves to have a good time dictated by someone else- but I didn't like it when it only had 250,000 people. When I start to see the bats, I know I'm getting too close to Vegas, and out comes the ether.

RE: Keith.Oxford
Clearly Keith you miss seeing the forest for the trees. It is not about avoiding activities that are "too out there" as you so eloquently put it. It is about priorities and making financial decisions on what you choose to spend your money on.
Some in life like myself have chosen to spend their hard earned money on their homes, and restoring/collecting cars. Others have choosen different activities and hobbies such as traveling the world and going to Vegas every three months. If doing those things is what allows others to enjoy their lives, more power to them and wish them the best of luck in their adventures. I have been there and done that - it just does not interest me at this stage in my life.
As far as sex goes - as a single, successful, 33 year old, business owner, and locally known car collector, I do just fine thank you very much. See you Barrett-Jackson next year....
