Once more, with feeling: Inside Line releases its pics of the Nissan GT-R

Today's getting crazy, man. Not long after AutoWeek decided to release images of the Nissan GT-R, which we're unfortunately not allowed to display here, Inside Line went ahead and opened its own coffers that contained 11 new shots of the car that promises 911 performance at a Z06 price. These pics, however, appear to be official ones courtesy of Nissan, so check them out in the gallery. No more news has been offered in terms of engine specs and power output, though we do know it goes from 0-60 MPH in 3.5 seconds, does the quarter-mile in 11.7 seconds and can hit 192 MPH. Oh yeah, and its base MSRP will start below $80,000. We assume outlets like Motor Trend, AutoWeek and Inside Line know more about the car that they're not saying, but at least we have these pretty pictures to look at while we wait.

This is a lesson on how to ruin a car design without having the faintest reason. Now it looks like a bloated Celica. The guy that did this should be fired on the spot.

I'm not too worried. There will be upmodel versions (Vspec anyone?), and body kits that will correct it.
The basic shape is fine, it just needs a slightly more agressive facia.

You are absolutely right, the first thing I noticed was the lack of the extended headlamp, vent, and trim. Without it it looks too much like a 350z, didn't Nissan learn anything about killing concepts from Jaguar?

@Russel, boy racer? I'm sure every 17 year old kid will be rushing out to drop $80K that they don't have on the GT-R, riiight. Most people who buy this ill be enthusiasts I believe.
I am, however, interested to see some tuning companies such as Signal, HKS, Top Secret, and GReddy get their hands on this thing until it'll outrun a Veyron. Hopefully this VR38 block is as easy to tune as the RB25/26 was.
The interior is ok, better than the 'vette, but still focusing on the R34's interior, I wish they would have gone in a new direction there, but I'd still buy one.

Not too bad but I think the old Eclipse was a more fluid design. This new one is more if a mish-mash of various design styles with no consistent, coherent theme. Mitsubishi should still sell plenty though.

LOL dude I think you got it all mixed up. This is a NISSAN, not a Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi is the one which sells the Eclipse, and their supercar is the Lancer Evolution.

No more? lol... you do realize pretty soon these dual clutch transmissions that are faster and more economical, will almost completely replace manuals, right?

i can't believe i'm saying this but i don't care that they are faster, i want to be in complete control of my cars and not be at the mercy of a computer doing what it wants to. I want cars that take skill and effort to drive, not that make even the worst drivers look like hero's.

I understand what you're trying to say, howerver, automatic clutch operation hardly takes skill out of the equation of navigating a technical track at speed. A rudimentary skill like manual clutch operation takes a backseat to more important driving skills under such conditions, and bad drivers are still bad drivers, far from looking like heroes. I wouldn't even call it a major driving skill, even if it's the one that requires the most physical effort.
Outside of operating a clutch and a stick, there is still lots of skill, effort and fun to be had in a sports car equipped with a dual clutch sequential transmission that shifts exactly when you want it to, faster than you ever could, with perfect rev matching on every downshift. I understand lots of people still prefer a manual, but lets not diss these trannnies for the wrong reasons.

Sorry dude, visceral thrills aside, I'd just prefer the space I'm operating in to NOT look like a tractor interior swathed in leather. Just me.

I don't mind the exterior. I think Nissan really dropped the ball on the interior. Its so clunky and disjointed.

911 turbo performance at z06 price. In fact, the GTR should be faster than the 911 turbo if those stats are correct

2+2 is great. The interior is better than a Z06. AWD and paddles will be awesome.
But...
Fix up the front end, it looks dull. Change the wheels. The whole car looks fat. Maybe it's ever increasing crash test requirements but it looks bloated. Less ammenities inside and a tighter body would be nice. I'm afraid to see the final weight.
