VIDEO: Toyota takes Tacoma to World of Warcraft

Supposedly aired during Sunday's football programming, this commercial for the Toyota Tacoma takes the little Taco to an uncharted realm for compact pickups. The ad takes place inside the incredibly popular massive multiplayer online game called World of Warcraft. As our friends over at Joystiq point out, the right mount means everything when charging into battle, and one player conjures a Tacoma as his steed, or as he calls it, "Four wheels of FURY!!!". It's truly one of the funniest car commercials we've seen so far this year, and we're surprised Toyota didn't save it for the Super Bowl. Perhaps we'll see Master Chief bringing the troops to battle in a Tacoma during the big game.
Check out the ad in full after the jump.

What I didn't get was who their targeted audience was for this commercial. I was at a bar watching this with a few guys and while we all understood the commercial. We didn't get who they were targeting. How many WoW players are really watching football all day Saturday and Sunday?

This was aired during the SEC game on CBS (Gators vs LSU) and I know a lot of college kids watch their teams play and a lot of them play WoW, and a lot of them have parents who buy them cars, so it makes perfect sense to me. I didn't see it once on Sunday during either the Jaguars game or the Bucs game.

I do.. I watch as much college and pro as I can on Sat/Sun, and I play WoW regularly.
So it hit dead on if it was aiming towards me.. Funny thing is I just bought a Toyota (Scion), considered a Tacoma, but just need a commuter car for now.

Small target market yes, but I always like when companies do something different with their advertising, especially the pickup ones, manly pickup ads are ridiculous.

Yeah, because I don't know ANY guys who like video games AND football.

Agreed, just different games. Sports guys are geeks too. They are just accepted geeks.

There are 9 million WoW subscribers... I'm pretty sure they don't need anyone else's acceptance.
Lots of guys have the game on while hammering away on AV weekends.
WoW FtW NuBz0rZ!

In fact some of my closest friends have many times said "I'm gonna log and go watch the game."
Andrew 11:34PM (10/08/2007)
@Shipey: There are 9 million users *worldwide*. There are only 2 million US WoW users. And quite a few of those are just kids. Quite important considering we're talking about buying a new car. No, WoW users are not going to take over the market any day soon. There are probably more lesbian, latino lawyers out there than WoW players.

Hey, do you ever wonder why they call it a Warthog? I think it looks more like a Puma!

don't worry, that's the first thing I thought of too.
Tacoma commercials are by far the funniest car commercials ever. The only car commercial that came close was the mercedes one that got banned. the one with the test-crash ram thing. ever wonder why that got banned but the tacoma-loch ness one didn't?
Andrew 12:07PM (10/08/2007)
lol that was hilarious.

I've never played but i got the reference. I like their little shot on the gamer-geek-cry-baby. That was funny.

Maybe not every tacoma driver plays wow, but this is a memorable and extremely viral commercial. How many times can you say that about a truck ad? Well done, they got their ad money's worth.

Everyone knows Master Chief would drive a Veyron :D

Doubt it. Master Chief is a grunt, not a stuck up officer. A man who works to put meat on the table would love the power of the Veyron, but wouldn't keep it clean for more than a day.
