Spy Shots: 2009 Ford F-150 Platinum interior scooped
As Mike Levine from Pickuptruck.com notes, the Lincoln Mark LT luxury pickup truck was never the hot seller that Lincoln hoped it would be. Does that mean there's no demand for such a truck? No, just not from Lincoln. Perhaps a luxury truck badged with a Blue Oval would work better. Ford appears to agree, as these spy photos of what will be the 2009 Ford F-150 Platinum Edition attest. Unfortunately shots of the exterior don't reveal any details, but peering in through the driver's window gets us a glimpse of the upscale interior. There's a new steering wheel design, chrome-ringed gauges, a new shifter to replace the current baseball bat-like lever, and contrasting white stitching on the brown leather seats. The seats also feature more bolstering than a standard F-150, which suggests the Platinum Edition may be able to take a turn better than the base model.[Source: Pickuptruck.com]

that's the steering wheel out of an MKX, and mostlikely the gauges out of a mustang or one of the millions of special edition mustangs.
Hopefully the interior will be better than the MKX. it's got a fair amount of leather, but then they screw up the mix with all kinds of rubberiZed plastic and really really REALLY cheap plastic. i have tupperware made of better plastic. gj ford.

Mustang gauges????? What Mustang has gauges like that? I can see you don't like but your attempt at a humorous islam is pretty lame.

Gauges should be white on black, not black on white! Blech.

The interior looks pretty plush but the inside door panels look terrible.
They would seem low budget on a delivery truck.

Hopefully, Ford can keep Toyota at bay with their new F-150. We all know they can't afford to loose to much more in sales.

I'm a truck owner and the picture showing the center console displays what I hate about the new F150, they took the shifter off the stalk and moved it down where it just gets in the way. It looks like you have to reach under the laptop and will crush the phone (or at least unplug it) when shifting.
I really like a stalk shifter ever since my 3 on the tree in-line 6. My '51 GMC has it and as a bonus the starter is a pedal on the floorboard..
I do have to admit that I have a lot of crap in my truck and every flat surface is jammed with stuff.

You can still opt for the column shifter on F150 you know.

Thanks Mike I didn't know that and there was not-a-one with the column shifter when I went looking. The Chevys had them but I just didn't like the interior (my previous truck was a 1995 F150).

What makes you think that they would take away the stalk shifter. They currently offer both and I bet they will offer both again.
Not much else to say from the bad pics. Ford lead in interior design first and will again. Simple as that.

Why does Ford continue to mix good with bad materials and think it's "premium" or that it will sell? GM's trucks are now light years ahead of Fords. Yes, some surfaces are nicely finished, but others are just cheap, hard plastic.

Horrible door panels? What is so horrible about them? Have you ever looked at the Tundra's door panels? They look just as cheap and in my opinion even cheaper (they are comfy though).
Ben, I do agree in a sense and while I do like the Chevy interiors, I still think the current F-150's interior is better. And the same thing can be said about any pickup truck out there.

A valid point, yet how do you figure on the GM truck interiors not being as good as the Ford's? A friend has a Yukon (identical interior to uplevel Silverados/Sierras) and it is superb, with soft touch surfaces, good finishes, excellent detailing (stuff like the window switches/doorhandles) and low gloss plastics. Thats one main problem with the fords...the plastics are just much too shiny. And, they really over do it with the chrome. We have an '02 explorer that is being traded soon for an Acadia. We drove an '07 Explorer and well the interior is claimed to be more upscale, The fits are still a bit off (not bad though), some dash plastic is shiny, and the chrome vent covers look so bad, not to mention the cheap chrome on the shift lever.

I just think the F-150's interior is a good design. Don't get me wrong, I do like the GMT900 interiors but the Ford interior just suits me.
As for the shiny plastic, I never really noticed any shiny plastic in the F-150. But as for the Explorer, I do agree on that. Nice interior but too much chrome for me. Maybe some faux metal inserts or something would look better.

I just took delivery of a platinum '09 I ordered before Christmas. The platinum leather interior options (from the brochure) were either sienna brown or Medium stone. Since I ordered the brilliant siver metallic, the stone interior seemed the only logical option. I expected the interior to look like the brochure with charcoal grey accents. The dash, console and door arm rest are BROWN with a neutral beige looking carpet. Imagine how that looks with silver.
