Honda CRX successor coming to Tokyo?

The Scooper of Cars seems to have it on good authority that during Honda's press conference in Tokyo, the Big-H plans to take the wraps off a new compact, rumored to be a successor to the CRX.
Originally, it was thought that the Remix concept that debuted in L.A. would foretell the future of Honda's hatch revival, but due to the chilly reception afforded both it and Geneva's Sports Coupe Concept, Honda designers were sent back to their respective cubicles to hone the shape further.
We'll be on hand in Tokyo when Honda rolls out its debuts, but until then, we're still looking for a yellow 1989 model, preferably with an Si logo on the glass hatch.

I had a 1984 CRX and I still class it as one of the best cars I have owned. For a small, short wheelbase car it felt very secure on the road and I got a regular 32mpg on my normal 85mph highway commute. I would love to own an updated version.

I thought the Remix was butt ugly. I liked the Sport Concept much better. I had flowing lines and a fastback shape, which are much better styling lines than the Gremlin like Remix. Probably more aerodynamic as well.
These latest renderings are much more Remix/Gremlin like.
Hybrid is fine with me. But CVT is not. If it has a manual transmission and doesn't look like a Gremlin. I might be interested.

Ewwwww.
That's fine, just don't bring that ugly thing here.
Japanese styling is not very appealing to me, unless they copy American designs.

You mean like the Pontiac Aztec lol? Not bashing on American design (the new CTS is great in my eyes), but to each his own. There are many beautiful cars from every country

I like Japanese car designs, just not their concept car designs. The Lexus IS-F and Acura TL Type-S look awesome. This concept is just hideous though. I also like some American car designs like the Chrysler 300C and the Chevrolet Corvette. The Aztec was truly disgusting though.

honda is right to put off a production model until they get the styling and design right. the Remix and Sports Coupe Concept are both not ready for primetime.
but the world is deff ready for a crx, if honda does not screw it up it will sell very well.

I think that a stealership would ruin it with incredibly high mark-up. Base models that would normally be $14,000 would be going for $21,000. When the current generation Civic came out, I seen the SI model going for $28K.

Bringing back the CRX is a good move, using that design is not a bad good move.

I actually like the remix, from the door handles forward. the back glass and surround got botched but otherwise good. remix overall shape is in the spirit of the CRX, more so thatn the SCC

Bring the Euro civic type R as the CRX.

I really hope it looks nothing like ether of those concepts. I'm pretty disappointed that Honda has caved to the industry trend of presenting ultra-futuristic CAD farts as vehicles. None of them have any sense of grace or proportion or balance... If it looks anything like that 2005 mockup that was circulating, I'll be overjoyed, but I'm not holding my breath.

Why mess with perfection. 1989 CRX Si 5 speed, white. Take that, Honda, and give us an UPDATED version that fits with the spirit AND STYLE of the 1989 version! Line forms behind me!

I agree. Don't waste time coming up with a 'new' design...Take a page out of Honda's own history...Take the 1988-91 crx si, add a few updated powerplants (I don't care which, but the k20/k24/turbo k23 seem like good contenders and a green version with ultra-high gas mileage would help with production costs) Add a bunch of weight to make it 5-star crash-worthy, but keep it as low as practical, slap a sticker on it, and produce way too many. They will ALL sell.
Maybe even consider a stripped down CRX CR (think s2000cr) Let it weigh in at around 2000lbs with nothing inside but two seats. Toss in as crazy of a motor as you can. Get ready to sell these out too.

agreed, the gen 2 was pretty much perfect
the problem is its not possible to make that car any more, now way to pass crash regs with a car that light. if they could keep the weight down to maybe 2300 lbs then the 1.5 in the fit and the new 1.8 would be perfect for the standard and si versions.
if honda is stupid enough to make it a hybrid only, it will be a sales disaster.

Noooooo, a Y49 CRX, everyone knows they're cursed.

Can we please let the Gremlin look die. There are retro designs you bring back and ones you dont. This is one of those you leave in the past! But of course this is Honda. They don't know the meaning of style, just bland and hideous.

I dont understand why Honda discontinued the CRX and went with the CRX DEL SOL model, it was a disappointment.
The CRX was one of the cutest cars, Great for two people, handy hatchback, it was even sold in Europe with 4 seats and power windows, Gas mileage was very good even back in late 80's, especially in the HF version which got over 50 mpg on he highway, it wasn't super fast but not slow either.
I expected Honda to build a new CRX using the Insight as a base car.

As an EP3 owner, I love the look, and the engine of the current CTR, but it has a beam out back! That was absolutely shocking to me. I thought it was bad enough that Honda resurected the beam for the Fit..

yeah,
the wishbones used to be the trump card that made civics the ultimate front wheel drivers. now they lost their best feature and get smoked by cars that weigh a little more but have 100 more torque.
it used to be the best at any price, now you have to justify the civic si because it costs less...
