Spy VIDEO: Subaru WRX STI barely disguised

Car magazine has caught a brand new WRX STi doing its flat four, turbocharged boxer thing at the 'Ring. The only disguise it's wearing is black masking along its sides. That doesn't stop you from seeing what it can do, or from hearing how it will sound doing it when the thing gets into buyers' grubby hands. The 300 BHP (and then some) Scooby takes its first bow in about a week. Until then, enjoy the movie. And this car is looks fantastic in Rally livery...

It's barely disguised and I'm barely intersted.
Actually what's between barely and not at all?
That might be more accurate.
I'd still like to drive one though.

I'll have to look at video of other cars going 'round that part of the ring to see how much understeer they exhibit. Can anyone find one?
Honestly, in the video here, she looks a little soft in the springs.
BTW, MORE or less than 300 BHP?
I am still interested and an admitted Scooby fanboy by way of 700k miles worth of experience, but it is about the balance between looks and tossability.

My bet is that it will have more than 300 hp since its predecessor had 300-hp.
I think the car may look mild mannered, but the purpose of the STi, and the Evo for that matter has never been looks. With 320hp (my bet) a weight LOSS from the last generation (are you listening Mistu) and the versatility of a hatch, the STi is going to kick a$$.

I hope so!!!
This weeks Autoweek reviewed the EVO and that it is definitely softer than the last EVO.
I think it looks skimpy in the rear quarter design, while the STi looks a bit meaner.
We'll see.
Can't wait until Oct 10.

Here is the video link so you don't have to go through CAR's multiple pages to watch it.

Frankly that thing sounds awful. It's way too high-pitched and buzzy for a factory exhaust system...I hope that's the pre-production exhaust setup. Doesn't sound very refined.

It almost sounds like they've switched to equal length headers. I can't hear the classic Subaru rumble.

Why do Subarus have to be so ugly? It's incredible to me that a vehicle that can give supercars a run for their money around a tight track was designed to look like a cross between a chevy Aveo and a pug.

My guess is they sell their cars to people like me. I couldn't care less about the looks of the car, it just has to be the tops in driveability, value and cargo space. It also has to be able to put up with winter in an area that suffers from lake effect. As soon as I get rid of my current car, I'll more than likely replace it with a subie.

uhh...You're a dork..
johdaxx @ Oct 3rd 2007 4:58PM
It does looks like it's a bit understeer-y doesn't it?

Listen to the car downshift between 43sec and 41 sec. Does it sound like it has a sequential manual gear box that is matching revs automatically....? Sounds like it to me..

Yeah, I noticed that too, the throttle blip was *really* fast.

Put the disguise back on! At least then I was somewhat interested to what was hiding under it. Now I just see a used bar of soap, soft lines and lifeless.
