Pics Aplenty: 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X detail shots

Mitsubishi has just released a slew of new images showing many individual components of the upcoming 2008 Lancer Evolution X. Want to see what the new
turbocharger looks like? Perhaps a close inspection of the
ENKEI wheels is warranted. Or maybe the
BBS Alloy wheels? The
Bilstein shocks and
Eibach springs? Mitsubishi even included naked shots of the Lancer Evolution X
chassis and
body (shown at right).
The set also includes pics of both the
GSR interior and
RS interior, so we can see how much of a difference there is between the well-appointed digs of the more expensive model and the stripper variant. Turns out there's a lot, and the difference in bolstering on the seats of the GSR and RS is surprising. Plus, you lose the suede seat inserts, center armrest and some flashier trim in the
RS interior, as well. The new pics have been added to our gallery and begin
here, and we've added captions on each one so you know what you're looking at.

very cool, turbo looks very interesting, those BBS wheels are hawt
masarak @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:49PM
Why are there no rear headrests on the RS?
John Neff @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:50PM
Probably a weight saving measure.
speedball3 @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:14PM
Probably in the name of weight savings. Same w/the front seats, or perhaps they figure most people buying the RS would swap out the seats anyway, so why not give'em cheaper seats (kinda like the WRX "Tuner" edition). I kind of like the RS interior better, minus the front and rear seats...tho I can't tell if the dash trim is carbon fiber or just cheap bumpy plastic.
mk @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:19PM
I agree, the BBS wheels are hawt. 7-spoke pairs looks better than their 8-spoke-pair RG-R wheel. Probably won't fit my subaru, though, due to subie's odd 5x100 bolt pattern.
The turbo centershaft is interesting, but not really all that unique. Most turbocharger's compressor and impeller wheels look pretty much the same, just like that with slight differences in blade profile.
The Porsche 997 Turbo Variable vane setup is a bit different than that. but otherwise most turbo impellers and compressor wheels look pretty much like that.
I am sorry to see that the EVO X's concept headlights didn't make production, with their optic LED-light-pipe markers, LED turn signals, and projector beams...
Otherwise, if this turns out to drive as good as it looks, the new STI is a bit worrysome, at least in the looks department.
Hopefully the 5-door concept version (SportCross, or something, I forget the name) will make it to production as well.

Seems like an awesome car on paper. I just can't get over the front end. It just doesn't look attractive at all.
Tagg @ Oct 3rd 2007 10:40PM
I think this entire car looks great, a nice improvement over the last generation. My neighbor works for Mitsubishi in the Detroit area as a operations manager and has the current Evo (and a F-150) and I was never really impressed with its look. Sure its fast as hell but its just as crude and cheap which even he admits. He swears this one is twice the quality and much more refined with out giving up much at all in performance. He gushes over the seats too as well as the how it shifts. So I hope he gets the new one so I can get my hands on it for a second!

FYI- the RS in Japan has always been a stripper, previous generations didn't even have brembo brakes or alloy wheels. The assumption is that it will be modified off the lot for motorsport, so Mitsu just includes the bare minimum components for the car. The US RS has always been more fully equipped than the JDM one (hard to believe but true) since its intent is to be a lower cost Evo variant that won't be modified as much as the ones in Japan.
zamafir @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:38PM
I cannot wait to buy this car.
SPG @ Oct 3rd 2007 3:58PM
The RS is the basic stripped down model?
WTF?
That thing has a huge screen and power options galore.
Nick @ Oct 3rd 2007 4:48PM
That's not a screen. That's a gaping black hole. As for power windows, that's interesting. I wonder if they don't have a manual crank option for the standard lancer anymore, in which case designing and manufacturing the door panels would be prohibitively expensive for the low volumes of an Evo RS. That's my theory.
SPG @ Oct 3rd 2007 5:55PM
You're right!
That is one big ass gaping hole.
Also, I went to Mitsubishi's corporate website and I could not find a Lancer without power windows.
Maybe in a third world country but I did not take the time to do an extensive search.
Thanks for your comment.
EquinsuOcha @ Oct 3rd 2007 7:11PM
Mitsubishi hasn't offered manual windows in any of it's cars since 1999 (the last one being the Eclipse). Even the DE models come with power windows.
However, the Raider still offers them, as it's just a Dakota underneath.
stefan @ Oct 3rd 2007 4:31PM
I still don't know why the new JDM EVO has a 300KM/h speedo because all JDM vehicles have a 180KM/h one.
drunkenpublicness @ Oct 3rd 2007 6:28PM
Most of the JDM Evo RS's are sold to race/ tuner shops that strip them out anyway. Their not really meant to be driven in this configuration, just enough to roll them out of the factory and into hopefully, racing history.
adrian @ Oct 3rd 2007 8:45PM
Another powerhouse Evo from Mitsu.
Scott @ Oct 4th 2007 2:23PM
Yes the RS Evo in the states came with manual crank windows
MikeW @ Oct 4th 2007 10:08PM
Yes, forward is downshift!
Havage @ Oct 6th 2007 3:17PM
I'm sorry to say this but I think its hideous. I am going to start shopping around to see if I can find an Evo IX MR. I know the tech is awesome and the car is better overall but I could care less, I wanted an untamed beast of a vehicle that frightens children, not something my girlfriend can call 'cute'.
Ok, I acknowledge the car is VERY fast and handles great and all ... but really...this is what we get? This seems like a neutered IX that got dressed up to hang out with snobs and left its real friends behind.
Sincerely,
Long Time Evo Lover
