Chevy considering entrant into the mini-'ute segment abroad

Click the image above for a host of live shots of the Chevy Trax concept.
GM is keeping a close eye on the growing cute 'ute segment abroad, and according to a union leader from the ABVV, the General has already tasked its Antwerp, Belgium factory with building the small SUV in the second half of 2010.
The new model, likely to spawn both an Opel and Chevy variant, is expected to take cues from the Trax concept show at last year's New York auto show, and will do battle in Europe with the Fiat Sedici and Suzuki SX4. GM's new small-car platform, co-developed with Daewoo Auto and Technology in Korea, may underpin the new model, although there's no word on whether such a vehicle will find its way here to the States.

wasn't the Trax the least popular of the three mini cars voted for by web users around the world?

Yes, but I was one of those few people who voted for the Trax. :-)

A lifted Kia Rio with AWD would even be a much better looking mini-ute.
I'm guessing the production car is going to be a very different vehicle.

Actually if I remember correctly the Trax was actually the most popular of the three. It kind of reminds me of a Jeep vehicle.
I think if they made all three they would have success as long as the interiors are decent enough and they get good fuel economy. A 4wd version of the Trax to take on the Suzuki Sx4 would also be nice. In any case I like all three, as they are some of the best concepts to come out of GM in a while.

If Daewoo were to end up actually BUILDING the cars, there would be zero chance of decent interiors. None.

Just check the vote totals and the Trax had the lowest vote count. 14.7%. Groove = 37.9%, Beat = 47.4%.

Groove was the most popular at first. Then I guess the Beat surpassed somehow. I think the Beat is the fugliest thing I've ever seen in my life.
The Groove is cool, it has that Scion xB thing going on. But the 1.0 Diesel engine sounds lame. Unless they can infuse that with some magic technology that makes it super powerful and super efficient at the same time.
The Trax is just cuter. :-)
