Spy Shots: Production Kia Soul in the wild

Click the Soul for high-res images
Earlier this year, Kia confirmed that the Soul crossover introduced at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show would be going into production. A camo laden example of the production version has been spotted in the Detroit area not far from the Hyundai-Kia Tech Center. The production version looks like it sticks pretty close to the concept on the outside. The main visual differences are the rear suicide doors being replaced with conventional types and frames around the side glass. The shape of the vehicle with the slight downward sloping roof-line and the boxy front remains true to form. We'll probably see this one make its public debut during the coming auto show season, perhaps as soon as the Detroit Auto Show in January.

It's truly a buyers market in the crossover segment.
And a crowded segment at that.

Sweet! It actually looks close to the concept. Kia is moving up. I really see this being popular with the younger market.

Autoblog, you seem to rip on GM and ford a lot lately for putting non-functional side vents on some vehicles, but when KIA does it, you don't say a word. I realize this was a concentrated article, but if it would have been "spy shots of the (Ford product)", the out of style side scoops would have been your first comment.

How cute/ironic. A car that doesn't have a soul has been named the "Soul".

Holy crap, I saw that God awful car earlier on the way to see 'The Kingdom.' Let's just say that the movie is much better to look at than the car. It was on the 5 Freeway in Orange County. There is a huge Kia facility about 11 miles north of where I saw it. The Kia facility was built roughly 6 months ago in Tustin, Ca. See intersection; Jamboree Pkwy. and I-5.
