2008 ROUSH 428R Mustang unveiled

The 427R Mustang is the most popular Mustang model that ROUSH has ever offered, which is saying something when it comes from a company whose core business is producing bigger, better and meaner Mustangs. Today ROUSH announced that it will continue honoring the storied engines of Ford's past by adding the limited edition 428R Mustang to its 2008 lineup. ROUSH has plans to produce only 200 copies of the 428R, which will arrive at dealerships next month. It's up to any current 427R owners out there to consider whether the following changes warrant an upgrade to something a bit more exclusive. For one, the Mustang's ROUSHcharged (supercharged) 4.6L V8 has been further massaged to produce 435 HP and 400 ft-lbs. of torque, up from 427 HP and 391 ft-lbs. in the 427R. It appears the 428R gets the same ROUSH suspension package, exhaust and brakes as the 427R, but in terms of exterior styling, the 428R features a single set of headlamps up front, as well as a "black bar high-flow grille" with no galloping Mustang. There's plenty of ROUSH badging inside the vehicle and out, and the interior gets branded floor mats and sill plates, as well as ROUSH sport leather seating, a ROUSH short throw shifter with a retro ball top, and white face gauges.
Also revealed with the 428R is news that ROUSH will also introduce a 429R model for the 2009 model year. No word yet on what it will hide underhood, but expect it to be even more powerful than the 428R introduced today. Of course, one might be inclined to note that the world hardly needs yet another variant of the Ford Mustang, but as long as people keep buying them, companies like ROUSH will keep producing them.

PRESS RELEASE:
ROUSH CONTINUES THE HOMAGE TO FORD HISTORY WITH 428R* MUSTANG
LIVONIA, Mich. (September 24, 2007) - ROUSH Performance continues to pay tribute to Ford's legendary history with the 428R* Mustang, a limited edition pony car which follows in the tremendous success of their 427R* model introduced last year and which remains in the ROUSH product lineup for the 2008 model year.
The ROUSH 428R* Mustang will arrive at participating Ford dealerships in October 2007.
"We are continuing to honor and celebrate the heritage of the proudest models of Ford racing history - the 427, 428 and 429 (engines)," stated Jack Roush. "These are iconic numbers in the Ford world and it is an honor to put them onto ROUSH Mustangs and insert them back into the muscle car world."
"The 427R* is easily the most popular Mustang model that ROUSH has ever introduced to the market," said Joe Thompson, ROUSH Performance's vice president and general manager. "That vehicle will remain the cornerstone of our lineup, but to celebrate Ford's history of automotive breakthroughs we will build a 428R* in 2008 and a 429R* in 2009. These cars are intended to be a collector's edition with limited production that pays respect to Ford Muscle Car history."
The 2008 ROUSH 428R* Mustang is limited to 200 vehicles, each a potent street slayer with 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque thanks to the famous ROUSHcharger* system, which, in the 428R* is a chrome powdercoat which glistens when the hood is raised. Other under-the-hood goodies include ROUSH billet radiator and intercooler radiator caps, oil cap, and strut tower caps which add to the sparkling engine compartment.
The looks of the car continue on the exterior also, with the ROUSH front fascia, chin spoiler, hood scoop and rear wing adding to the muscular look. The locking hood pins show the world that there is something lurking under the hood, and the black bar high-flow grille adds to the aesthetics.
As for handling, the ROUSH suspension package makes it simple to manage the left and right turns. Changed by the ROUSH technicians are the front and rear shocks, front and rear springs, front and rear sway bars, jounce bumpers and an anti-wheel hop kit is installed at the Livonia, Mich., factory. ROUSH 18-inch cast wheels and high-performance tires grip the road, and the offroad exhaust system gives the ROUSH 428R* the necessary growl expected from a V-8 Mustang.
The interior of the 428R* gets the ROUSH treatment as well as ROUSH sport leather seating is installed, the white face electro luminescent gauge cluster, and the ROUSH short throw shifter with retro ball makes quick gear changes. Rounding out some of the interior upgrades are ROUSH sill plates and floor mats.
As with all ROUSH vehicles, the 428R* comes with unique fender and decklid badges as well as a pair of engine bay plaques to authenticate this as an official ROUSH vehicle. Each vehicle comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Jack Roush. The ROUSH 428R* is available with either a five-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Roush modified Mustangs are different than most. While most others are simply tuned for more power and have a different visual look, Roush Mustangs address the Mustang's biggest weakness - its suspension and brakes.
I'm not that big into Mustangs and even less so into the countless other tuned versions out there, but the 427/8/R's are actually worthwhile.

A Roush Fusion and Edge would be awesome.
Not that that's not a nice Mustang.

Still the same ol' black plastic mirrors? Does $15 dollars worth of paint take all the profit out of the car?

You've got that wrong, DelayedZ, it's VILLAGE IDIOT! iN MY CIRCLE OF MUSCLE CAR OWNERS we refer to it as "THE MUSTERD OR MESSYTERDS! Of course most of us drive "GOATS", that's DODGE for you uninformed BUT WE DO HAVE A FEW LETTER SERIES CHRYSLER 300s!
They're going to have a problem finding a place to experience the power and performance of this 428R! The only place we find that we can let it all hang out is the BONNIVILLE SALT FLATS!

Really don't like that front end chin spoiler. Makes the car look like it has a fat lip or severe overbite problem.
Watch Jeremy Clarkson's "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly". The Roush was only one of two cars (the other was the Z06 Corvette) that he actually liked here. He did not like the Shelby GT500 edition (tons of go-fast, but no handling or brakes.)

He we go with the Mustang bashing. So is it Ford's fault again?
Obviously not. Ford can't stop these companies from creating more Mustangs.
Anyways, my biggest beef is that the 427R (if I remember correctly) was quicker and handled a lot better than the GT500 yet cost about the same. If this thing came with the Ford warranty (which I think it does), I will slap my hard earned money down on the hood of one of these things. But give me one in black without all the stickers. Or even better, without all the body trim.
