Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sport Coupe back for round two
While the previous generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sport Coupe proved to be little more popular in the U.S. than the old BMW 318ti, evidently enough hatch-happy Europeans bought it to justify a second edition. Now that the sedan and wagon versions are out and about, this largely camo-free coupe has been spotted. Much like the previous edition it looks like a truncated fast-back version of the sedan. We'll probably see the model in a non-matte finish no later than the next Geneva Motor Show and possibly sooner. It's interesting to note, however, that we understand the C-Class Sport Coupe will be based on the previous generation C-Class chassis and merely wear the nose of the new model. I don't see this as a competitor to the BMW 1 series coupe.I'm suprised Mercedes doesn't have something like the 1 series or sub C class to offer.Any plans Mercedes?

Well there is the A and B class.
But I'm guessing that's not what you ment.

The 1 series coupe is in a league of it's own compared to A and B class.I'd like to see if Mercedes is truely interested in competing with BMW for the entry level sports coupe segment. So far I haven't read about plans or heard of any indication. So BMW has it all to themselves.

This seems like a crazy strategy but I'm happy to see the C-Class coupe back.

It's just a different market in the US. Right or wrong, this car here says to people that they are cheap and are trying to just get the cheapest Mercedes they can afford. And I can't see why this would succeed in the US where the previous one failed. Is it really coming here?

based on the old c-class? what cheapskates! reusing old platforms has been done before by car companies, but not premium car makers. just as i thought mercedes was improving post chrysler era.

Well, BMW did it with the 3-series hatchback--didn't it use the prior model's rear suspension?
This is a European car. Europeans like hatchbacks. Europeans also use Mercedes as taxis. Things are different over there. If we get this car here, well, so be it. I liked the old C coupe--it had good driving manners, great cargo space and good safety ratings. If Mercedes could've screwed it together a little more reliably (and you can say this about their whole line-up), it'd've been a more popular choice.
Of course, I own a Saab that east five $100 bills every six to eight months in repairs. I swear, unless the Europeans can fix their abysmal QA, the asians are going to gut them like they did the North American makes.

This is significantly more attractive than their last attempt here in the US. That prior small Mercedes had that chopped off tail end and a slab sided rear fender that partially covered the rear tire. The additional length of this new Mercedes and the more flowing liftback would be more of a hit. Although it does have somewhat of the slab sided look on the rear fender; somewhat like it has a ton of bricks in the trunk that makes the car squat over that back tire.
A vast improvement, but one more request. Please move all fuel fillers to the LEFT side of the vehicle before importing to the US. Cars here always pass on the right, and that applies at the gas pumps also. Nothing more annoying than opposing traffic trying to get at the gas pumps!

LOL, in regards to the gas cap issue, trying to tell a Mercedes engineer that they are wrong must be fun. I think you would have to write up a thesis on the history of gas caps, do a few thousand surveys, and show live running models of gas stations depicting where, why, what, and how the problem persists. Maybe they would listen at that point, but the argument of "everyone else is doing it the other way" would not change their mind. They probably like the attention each car gets at the gas station for being in the way and different.

J.Crew--hahaha. Or have the gas staions change their way of arranging the pumps.
Still, I like the C-coupe and thought itwas a good idea. Like a SAAB, the hatch is useful for a lot of hauling and is efficient too.

ok i hear this from all these review sites that its based off the old C class chassis but i also heard it was gonna be updated a little bit so it wont suck, at the same time, i heard in an article recently from the mercedes benz CEO and a couple other review sites who said its based off the "new" C class chassis... i guess we wont know untill we have an official saying from mercedes
