The Audi R8 isn't even on sale yet in most parts of the globe, but already we've heard of cars going up in flames in Germany and now we have a story about one that's gone amok in downtown Moscow. From the images, it appears the driver lost of control of the car in the wet weather, skidded across onto the median strip and then crashed into a small tree before spinning to a stop. The car must have been traveling at some speed because the crash managed to rip out the car's headlight out, projecting it several meters away onto a small patch of grass.
Every time we see a crashed exotic, we wonder when more car companies will start offering some kind of advanced driver training course as part of the car's purchase. Then again, there's no way to prevent the stupidity that makes someone want to speed in a built-up urban area in the wet. We hope the driver was at least smart enough to have insurance because it appears this R8 will have one very hefty repair bill. There are plenty more photos at English Russia. Click the "Read link" or either pic shown here to head over. If you're easily saddened by exoticar wreckage, keep a box of Kleenex handy.

There are getting to be so many exotics that I can only wonder if there a correlation between supersport riders and exotics car owners:

what training :) this is Moscow. only training you need is to aim better. But seriously i doubt it those people will waste time with lessons. Vodka in one hand steering wheel in another and the woman next to you is shifting your shifter

Yes, I would LOVE to see the lowly Moscow car dealer try and tell the Russian Mafioso he must take a drivers class before he can get his exotic. This R8 probably "fell off a truck" anyway.

Russia is getting as bad as Americans, when it comes to impaired driving. Thier driving is not as bad though.YET. Soon crashing expensive cars will be the norm too.

is there a time stupid autoblog authors realize that R8 TESTMULES catched fire in Germany... TWO till today... the reason why manufactor build testmules to find mistakes...
Funny that no one ever claimed that Subaru crashed one of their last generation WRX STI testmules at the Ring because of completly wrong suspension setup...

This is really good news. Thanks to Ronald Reagon it is now possible for Russians to crash an Audie R8 in downtown Moscow. Is life good or what?

That was possibly the dumbest thing I've read this week. Congratulations!

You can love or hate Russia but Moscow is the most expensive city in the world (more expensive than NYC or Dubai), it's so ahead in many aspects that it would put most of the US cities to shame.

In Russia, joke tells you!
Mike @ Sep 13th 2007 2:16PM
@ello: Ahead in what ways? Organized crime maybe...possibly in the "most overpriced real estate" category...oh and the "most likely place for a rich guy to be the victim of a shake down"...
ello @ Sep 13th 2007 2:48PM
@Mike, have you ever been to Moscow? There is Russia and then there is Moscow, I would classify Moscow as a country within a country, it's two worlds apart from the rest of Russia, sure there are neighborhoods with ugly communist architecture of the 1950s-1980s but most of the city is clean, well taken care of, if you got the money there is plenty of brand name stores and the way the store people treat you is years ahead of the way NYC treats me.
Add to that modern architecture mixed with architecture from over 100s of years ago and the city offers so much more then most of the American cities. Add to that a subway system that you could eat of the floor off, try that in NYC without getting hospitalized.
Russian government is no saint but the current US government isn't any better either. Full of greed, lies, and corruption.

"if you got the money there is plenty of brand name stores and the way the store people treat you is years ahead of the way NYC treats me."
I'd wager that's because no one has money like moscow has money. It's the most expensive city on earth.

so much for that 'all-weather performance capability' accolade! .....she slide many time and go boom. And yes, I know...a car is only in as much control as the driver.
Cameron @ Sep 13th 2007 2:02PM
Studies that aren't done by biased parties like SEMA or the SCCA etc. usually show that advanced driver training leads to people driving more dangerously on the street.
I'm not saying everyone with some seat time at a HPDE or driving school drives like a lunatic on the street. All the training in the world can't protect the people from the idiots out there, or the idiots from themselves.

So THAT'S what they mean by "projector headlights"...

When you buy a BMW M3 CSL they make you sign a disclaimer...
BMW also offers reasonably priced driving schools for all skill levels, from wet weather control right up to performance track racing.
Unfortunately money doesn't buy brains...
