Nissan recalls 87,000 promo beverage mugs
Nissan is recalling up to 87,000 mugs that were given away to Japanese car shoppers as part of a recent promotion. The action was spurred after a customer reportedly became ill after drinking from one of the freebies, and tests showed that the cup's lead content exceeded the permissible levels by 30-percent. In case you hadn't guessed it by now, the mugs were made in the contaminated goods capital of the world: China. [Sources: Reuters, Nissan]

That's still their official corporate symbol, the 3D chrome one is just for the cars and consumer marketing, so there's nothing old about it.
I like the red an blue one better anyway.

You have to find the facts behind it before accepting what they said.
Why only Nissan's mugs have problems while millions of mugs exporting from China to the world?
Does Nissan want to cut the cost as low as possible but ignore the quality of their freebie?
There are tens of thousands of manufacturers in China, low grade ones and high grade ones. Of course, low grade low price, high grade high price (still cheaper than American Made). Unfortunately, when Americans want something from China, they are so reluctantly to pay a dime more, even though after adding a dime, the quality will go much higher and still way cheaper than American Made products. This requirement honestly transfers through the chain of Retailer-Wholesaler-Importer-Chinese Manufacturer. Then shitty Chinese products arrives in America to satisfied the cheap needs.
Conclusion: If you want cheap things, don't complain the quality. If you want to get better Chinese products, just pay more.

In other words, using your logic: If someone is poisoned by cheap Chinese goods, it is his own damn fault for not paying more? I find this logic appalling, because it shifts the blame from the criminals to the victims. And make no mistake, they are all criminals: from the unscrupulous business owners out to make a quick profit by cutting corners, to the government officials who accept bribes to look the other way. Criminals even by Chinese standards.
CNN: "The former head of China's Food and Drug Administration was executed in recent weeks after being found guilty on corruption charges -- a step the government said should serve notice to others trying to cut corners."

Next we'll hear that Chinese exports of lead don't have enough lead in them.

I guess since the Chinese did so badly in the crash tests they decided to sabotage the Japanese carmakers...
Watch out, the Europeans are next followed by the Americans! LOL!

Holy crap!!! First toys, then crayons, then they copy other companies cars, now friggin lead filled mugs!!! Come on CEO's boycott everything Chinese. That'll teach them to put some effort into their products. Or they might just go bankrupt and go away forever, that would be good too.

How to preemptively win future wars
1. Sell dirt cheap goods so everyone, even your potential enemy, buys them
2. Profit [this is usually step 3]
3. Become superpower when enemy population dies of lead related illnesses

Just one more reason for me to stick with American products. The only Asian products I buy are electronics, and those don't go anywhere near my mouth. I'd rather by those American, too, but, I don't know of any off the top of my head.
What's next? Is General Tso's Chicken going to be full of lead, too?
