Frankfurt Preview: Renault Laguna Coupe Concept

This is the Renault Laguna Coupe Concept we're expecting to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next Tuesday. It's based on the new Laguna platform that's already spawned a Laguna sedan. We'll see the production version of the sedan in person for the first time in Frankfurt, and the Coupe Concept, which is also likely headed for production, will be right beside it. There's no press release yet, so we can't tell you details like power and fuel economy numbers, but we can comment on the car's design. The Laguna Coupe Concept sports extremely clean sheetmetal with character lines that flow uninterrupted around the whole vehicle. The surface detail is subtle but there, hidden by the color of the car until revealed by a contrast of light and shadow. No doubt a simple design, the Laguna Coupe Concept is still refreshing in its minimalism. One could argue, however, that it's also derivative. We're not up on our Euro coupes well enough to compare, but we see a little Chrysler Sebring in the concept's face. The rear of the car, as well, evokes Aston Martin design elements.
The concept's interior, meanwhile, is not ready for production prime time, sporting a swoopy dash and concept controls that will likely not appear on the production vehicle.
We'll bring you more info on the Renault Laguna Coupe Concept next Tuesday from Frankfurt, as well as live shots of the car when it debuts.

wow - what a unispiring design. The taillights look like a direct replacement from a mid 90's Lincoln Mark VIII.

When I saw the pic my first thought was that Nissan was resurrecting the 280SX (which wouldn't really be a bad idea, actually)

Is this the European version of the Altima coupe?

i'd buy that in a second if it had decent power and a stick.
take some getting used to on the dash, but it'll never look like that if they produce it

A clean, serene, design that unfortunately is not very exciting. Still, for a Renault design, this one is pleasantly ordinary. This could do well as an upscale coupe.
Now that I look at it again, there's a bit of Honda Civic Coupe with an Aston Martin rear end... I still like it.

Looks like a cross between a 350Z and a Lexus SC

I personally see Fisker Latigo in that rear end. Very similar.

I haven't seen a more beautiful concept car in a while. Everything just looks like it belongs.

Me likely. Would be a far better photo if the car where in a more positive colour.

Well integrated, and not bad.
The new mazda6 sedan is more dramatic, though. And a sedan that is more dramatic than a coupe, is saying something.

back end is a dead ringer for the Vantage.

That's more like it... I was starting to worry that Renault had lost its touch

Laguna coupe looks perfect. Designers hit the right spot, this is tribute to forgoten model "Fuego". I think this car looks awesome and I hope it will keep the same lines like on the concept. Altough I wish Laguna III had same head light like the coupe cocept. That would be great looking station wagon.
