Its really sickening. And they wonder why they are in the hole here. Outdated and non-innovative products for its US Consumers, good looking and technically good products for Ford's non-domestic markets. Ford really has let me down, I fear it will be a long time before I buy a Ford, and it may be too late either way. This whole situation is really outrageous, first the Focus, then the C-MAX and Mondeo, and now this? I know the exchange rate is a killer but this is now approaching comical. We get the new Focus which is built on decades old technology and the all new Taurus, again built on decades old technology and Europe gets dynamic cars with cutting edge design. Its like the Producers, I think they want Ford US to go bankrupt. There is no other explanation.

Zacarious

Comments on

I agree with you 100%, but I have to point out that the new Taurus is on a Volvo platform that is far from decades old.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Jon

Comments on

almost a decade

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_D3_platform

Zacarious

Comments on

Well, Ford Europe shafts us again!

It's miles better looking than the Edge.

What I wouldn't give for the killer diesel with 6-speed manual.

Don

Comments on

I think the Kuga is a much better looking car than what we have here, the Edge.

While I agree with everyone that Ford is messing up big time by not bringing euro models over.

But maybe there's an important underlying reason why they're not bringing the Focus, Mondeo, and now the Kuga over. Wouldn't bringing those Euro models to the US make them out of the "Ford" price range. I mean Ford in the US are affordable cars, but in Europe they can be priced higher, with a bit of premium attached. If they bring over the Euro models and water them down to meet a price point, wouldn't they just be as crappy as the current US models?

And how do the baby-boomers feel about these designs? Ford Europe's Kinetic Design is polarized towards the younger generations. We often forget that there's still middle America and Ford America still needs to cater to them as well.

Patrick Teng

Comments on

The answer is to build these European-designed Fords in North or Central America, which nullifies the currency-exchange issue. Things like the switchgear, displays, etc., even build quality all add up to the total cost. Then there's always the higer development costs that occurs in Europe. Tuning and test the suspension on the Nordschleife is still more expensive than at Ford's testing tracks in Arizona or Michigan.

But you're right. I don't think it's all these factors that are preventing Ford from making a comeback, it's the lack of foresight and risk taking in the management. So what if it's an American icon and the company is 100 years old, go big or go home! No sarcasm there.

Maybe the new CEO will know a thing or two about betting the entire company on one product, like how Boeing bet the entire company on the 747 and now the 787. Hells, Ford bet the company on the Taurus! And the new Taurus/500 just sucks.

Patrick Teng

Comments on

Just an idea - Ford should bring these cars over here just as they are and market them as the 'European-Fords'.
