Frankfurt Preview: BMW X6 spied before debut
Now that it's been confirmed the BMW X6 will make it's world debut in Frankfurt next week, those tasked with keeping the prototypes under cover have been given the green light to show a little more skin... err, metal. These newest shots don't leave much to the imagination, giving us a very clear view of both the front and rear of BMW's SAV.The front clip has a decidedly sportier appearance than its big brother the X5, with larger air dams, kidney grilles and fog lamp recesses. The sloping roofline out back is as extreme as we expected, and the small spoiler integrates smoothly into the hatch.
Frankfurt is less than a week away, so, as always, watch this space.

It actually isn't too bad looking, but I just don't get it. An SUV without without the utility and a sloping roofline means the backseat is really just for kids.
Is it me, or would a 335 wagon not be a better vehicle in just about every way?

I saw one of these in the Greenville/Greer area of SC. Last Friday. I was at a stop light and when I saw it I tried to get my treo up fast enought to get to camera mode but he saw me look scared, pulled out in to traffic made an abrupt right and took off. This vehicle was black but had no silver striping on it and the logos were covered with electrical tape.

It's wrapped in camo and I can STILL see it's the best looking SUV in their portfolio.

Totally bad-ass.

Why?
What is the point of this vehicle? It's not a sport utility vehicle. It's not a crossover utility vehicle. It's not a sports car. It's not a hatchback car. It's not a truck. It's not a station wagon.
It is a big car with a hatch type area that is really not useful at all.
I just don't get it. Somebody please explain this to me. Who is going to buy this "thing".
Also, why is it called the X6 when it's smaller than the X5. Shouldn't increasing numbers mean a larger vehicle ala 3, 5, 6, 7 etc.

Yea I was wondering that was well, because that goes against all of the other numbering and sizing logic at BMW.

I like it because even though it's an CUV it does'nt have that station wagon/glorified mommy mobile profile. As for trunk space it's still deeper and probably has more volume than any 5 series sedan. It's a bad ass SUV for guys who want an SUV ,but want the design to say "There's not 2 strollers back there.

A 6 Series is a 5 with only 2 doors.

This vehicle is completely useless and ugly as hell. I'll be surprised if it makes it past the 2010 model year.

ain't it ugly thou
what are they thinking
this is even worse looking than the X3

Phew!
I was getting worried that yuppies were going to run out of choices in SUV's.
However, I'm sure this is going to be an awesome, road hugging, wel built, and good looking vehicle.
Kinda like a 3 or 5 series wagon but not quite as good of a choice.

As I understand it, the target market is wealthy urban couples who occasionally take dwarves out to dinner. In snowstorms. And they are running late for their dinner reservations, so they need to go really fast. And have $70K to spend.
It's a niche.

HAHA LOL. Loved that comment!
This vehicle is pointless. BMW are starting to lose their reputation by bringing out all these new vehicles which are just lineup fillers to compete with other manufacturers and have no real standup value on their own. If the competition wasn't there they technically wouldn't even exist.

Phenomenally hideous. Looks like they hired off the design team from the Aztek. I'll be surprised if this lasts 2 years (and this is from someone who generally likes BMW's other current designs to varying degrees).

Kinda good looks, but the price kills it for me. that and the fact that it is a BMW.
But then I am the loony that thinks the following looks good:

I don't find it unattractive, but it looks out of sorts with that body perched up so high - like something is just not quite right.

Hey if it worked for the Infinity FX45 then it sure will work for the BMW X6

except the FX45 looks good. This thing looks like some mutated offspring of the Pontiac Aztec. I'm a big fan of BMW, but like the above posters, I can't understand the rationale behind this model.

$10 says guys at the country club will trade in their Cayennes for these. I don't get it. It's nice to see the Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar race car on public streets, though.

I wonder when buyers will start smartening up and stop buying SUVs. I have nothing against those who buy a true-offroading SUV for the purpose of taking it offroad. Buying a "rugged" looking vehicle that will be driven exclusively on-road makes absolutely no sense. Perhaps when sales finally dwindle, the manufacturers will also smarten up.
