The ever-expanding list of debuts in Frankfurt has reached critical mass, and it stretches from the sublime to the mundane. Joining the latter category is the Alfa Romeo 147 C'N'C CoSTUME NATIONAL that's the product of the Italian automaker and world-renowned fashionista Ennio Capasa.
Supposedly drawing elements from "street culture" and the art world, the C'N'C gets an exclusive Eldorado White hue, along with black side mirror housings, smoked taillights and 17-inch "sparkle-effect" wheels. Inside, the interior gets leather inserts, alcantara and darker materials that contrast with the light exterior.
Nothing has changed under the hood, so expect the same 1.9-liter 150-hp four that makes its way across the 147 range. Production will be limited to 1,000 examples, so for those of you abroad who are particularly smitten, get your orders in now, or just wait for the next L.E. model.

PRESS RELEASE
The Alfa 147 C'N'C CoSTUME NATIONAL special series
Frankfurt sees the debut of the new 147 C'N'C CoSTUME NATIONAL, the fruit of collaboration between Alfa Romeo and stylist Ennio Capasa. It was inspired by the music world – Pop, Indie, and Garage – by 'street culture' and by the multimedia world. This special series will have a production run of 1000, and will be characterised not only by the exclusive Eldorado White paintwork with its exclusive mother-of-pearl effect (Polar White for the normal output), and by special refined details like the chrome-plated exhaust terminal, glossy black wing mirror cases, darkened rear lights and exclusive painted, sparkle-effect 17" wheels with their aeronautical design. And the '147 C'N'C' logos on the pillars and tailgate add an extra touch of refinement.
The dark shades of the interior create an elegant dynamic environment, with seats upholstered in leather and perforated Alcantara with a jacquard tone-on-tone pattern, and a contrast between the black varnished pillars, ceiling and trims and the white of the bodywork. The sporty personality of the 147 C'N'C CoSTUME NATIONAL is also evident in other details like the red background of the instruments with white lighting, carpeting mats with identity plate and aluminium heel-high strips.
The version on display is a 5-door, equipped with the sparkling 150 bhp 1.9 JTDM engine; the most sophisticated safety features are standard equipment - from VDC to ASR, ABS complete with EBD and 6 airbags - and there is a wide range of options: a Bose® Hi-Fi system with subwoofer, low suspension settings, Xenon headlights, satellite navigator and antitheft system.

there is a love hate i have with the nose on the ARomeo
It looks agressive, almost screams of "i have an attitude problem." in a menicing sort of way.
I do like the car, does stand out.... not a bland toyota or nissan.

If the GTI can't be reliable, it might as well be Italian.

More like base Rabbit power albiet through a smaller and most likely more efficient drive train.

nothing says you've arrived to the auto-enthusiast crowd like 'sparkle effect' wheels...
Guglielmo @ Sep 4th 2007 11:58AM
Nothing new under the sun... It's a seven years old car, it had very good performance some time ago, but now it just calls for a replacement. But, telling the truth, this version is way better looking than the Murphy&Nye one.

BEAUTIFUL. by far the best looking economy hatchback in the world. I wish they'd bring that to the US....Can't wait for Alfa Romeo to come back......i just hope they come to grips with the fact that a cheap, cool, Alfa will sell better than all their larger products put together. The time is NOW!
Guglielmo @ Sep 4th 2007 12:30PM
Unfortunately, all the rumor mills and speculations here in Italy say Alfa's comeback will be performed only by the bigger models like 159 and the upcoming 169, plus the crossover and the 8C Competizione. The US market will not receive the 149 nor the Junior.
syed @ Sep 4th 2007 12:46PM
true true...also the Brera is for sure coming here. But i still think Alfa is making a mistake not bringing the smaller 149 over...
Guglielmo @ Sep 4th 2007 3:03PM
Now that the big-is-better trend is decading there in the US, it actually is a mistake. You can always buy an imported one, although cars are very expensive here compared to the US. :D

Is is just me, or does the fabric on the seat look very 80's?
