In early 2008, the Lexus LF-A will go on sale on China. The price: $264,700. That's a lot of yuan, even with the expected markup for the Chinese market. Zeng Lintang, vice president of Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co, said that the car will sell "for more than 2 million yuan." By comparison, in China, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS sells for about 1.9 million yuan, and a Ferrari F430 sells for about 2.6 million yuan. ThePassionatePursuit actually compared the price ratio of a Lexus LS600hL sold in China and the U.S. and guesses the car could cost $129,703 USD when it goes on sale here. Lexus has talked about creating a car that can compete with Ferrari performance-wise. We'll soon see if it can also compete price-wise.

      Holy overpriced Toyota, Batman!

You're right MKIV, they'll compete with FERRARI only if they can steal enough technology from some other source. As far as reliability goes a 1942 Willys Jeep was more reliable than the LEXUS, ask any G.I. who spent time in the ETO or Pacific Theater or, anybody who bought a Jeep from War surplus! The LEXUS is reliable up to 49,999, break into the 50,000+ mileage and watch it spend 74% if it's time at the dealers!

        howard
I completely disagree with you purely based on my own experience. I have owned many Lexus' over the years and have two in my garage today. My wife's SC approaching 90k miles on it and let me tell you she is about as hard on a car as anyone I know. My IS350 is the most recent addition and I'm at the track hot lapping at least one a month. It's only got 30k miles on it but I'm on my 5th set of tires. I beat the absolute living life out of this car and the only thing it had done thus far is regular maintenance. My IS is been driven harder than 99% of the cars out on the road.
I have many friends and family who own Lexus vehicles and they all seems to be very happy with their vehicles.

get it straight people....people that have money and buy Porches and Ferraris are not going to down grade to a Lexus....new people that are coming into money that dont know any better are going to buy the LF-A to brag about owning one amongst their peers....cuz the people that can day in day out buy up all those Ferraris have a whole new level of peers to compete with....they are 2 completely separate demographics

What makes you think that the owner of [insert supercar here] is mutually exclusive with the owner of the LF-A? It is very likely that one may purchase and use the LF-A just as they would a Mercedes SL (which has comparable pricing), as a daily driver.

I'm single, work in google, rent a small condo of $10,000 a month, and I'm sure I can afford 2 lamborghinis or ferraris, but I only buy myself a toyota -- the prius. why? because I'm not moron.

      @dionysus:

So you think youre not a moron,by paying a small kondo 10k USD/month?

      ..get real.

"The LEXUS is reliable up to 49,999, break into the 50,000+ mileage and watch it spend 74% if it's time at the dealers!"

I don't know anyone that can say that with a straight face. This would be funny if it weren't so sad that someone's perception of a Brand reknown for reliability could be so distorted.

And I must ask what technology does Lexus need to steal from Ferrari? They already know how to make it run fast. Are you talking about luxury feature? Knowing Lexus this car will probably parrallel park for you and transform into an autobot when danger is imminent. The only thing Lexus needs to steal from Ferrari is how to make the car more appealing to rappers.

My guess when converted it will cost much less in the US market than in China.
but then again you can get 500hp with a gt500 and pay $40,000.

        I know. I'm just saying...

The fact that you are comparing a Mustang to any premium flagship engineered to be comparable to Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, and Porsches shows your analytical deficiency. The Mustang is simply outclassed and found wanting across many different levels no matter how much horsepower it has.
And spend your time on the side of the road. At the of the day you're still driving or fixing a Ford.
any guesses on what the total cost of production for this car is? is the body made of carbon fiber? frame as well?

      I'm guessing around 45k.
