Holden VE Wagon and HSV Ute Maloo peeked at presentation

We don't have all the details on how these two images were obtained, but it appears they were snapped during a product presentation for future Holden vehicles. We see for the first time Holden's VE Commodore Wagon, which is based on the newish VE Commodore sedan and will share the car's engine lineup of a 255-hp 2.6L V6 and 362-hp 6.0L V8 for the SS version. The other pic reveals the high performance version of the recently unveiled VE Ute called the HSV Ute Maloo. The aggressive trucklet will be powered by a 411-hp 6.0L LS2 V8, and as you can see, will sport a very aggressive body kit. As a matter of fact, if Lamborghini made a car-based pickup, it might just look like this. Knowing that Holden will be releasing a wagon version of the VE Commodore begs the question whether or not we'll see something similar in the U.S. It could be a Pontiac G8 or Chevy Impala Wagon, though either one would make a compelling alternative to the Dodge Magnum.

NICE! I love cool wagons.
I really hope this comes to North America.
Pontiac G8 Sport Tourer
Pontiac G8 Sport Cross
Pontiac G8 Estate
Or what I'll be calling it, G8 Wagon.

Looks good but will probably be to little too late unless Dodge really screws up the next gen Magnum...but I would really like to see a Ford Interceptor/Galaxie wagon like this one

Now that Ford wagon is HOTTT!! Literally the best looking wagon I've ever seen. Too bad it will NEVER be produced.

Wow. Certainly I would be in the market for this in a few years... V8 powered wagon that doesn't make you feel claustrophobic (aka Magnum).

Wonder how long before we see these in NZ
The wagon looks like a VE crossed with a 300C

and...knowing the Holden Ute - it'll be completely useless for anything other than straight line sprints (ie. can't put squat in it's tray)

The 6.0l V8s are cool and all, but 255 h.p in the base V6? A 2.5l V6, mind you. What's up with that? Forced induction?

it's a typo. it's meant to say 3.6L V6
carguy 8:16PM (8/27/2007)
the 2.6 is a typo - it's the same GM 3.6l V6 as is found in the Commodore/G8.

Bummer. I would be thrilled if GM had a honda-esque engine, even more so if it was right and proper with rear wheel drive.

Honda's new V6 makes 13 more HP than the 3.6 HF and it's .1 liter smaller in displacement. Not to mention the 3.6 HF in Outlook trim makes 275 to Honda's 268.
[sarcasm]Damn you're right GM's technology is really far behind![/sarcasm]

The wagon's gorgeous. Much prettier than a Benz, a Beemer or an Audi - which would be its only competitors.
Maybe it oughta be a Caddy.

I think my Mazda 6s Wagon will have a worthy replacement....finally.
I love my wagon b/c it is one of the few manual tranny wagons. The only other wagon that is about the same size is a BMW 5, VW Passat, and......well that is about it.
Seeing as I wouldn't ever consider spending BMW money on a wagon this "GM wagon" would fit the bill.
Please come in a manual 6sp and with the RWD I'll have everything I've ever wanted...and all my stuff too!

That rear overhang is pretty nasty though. It looks like one of those Caprice wagons. I think the rear wheels could stand to be quite a bit further back.
But good on them for making more wagons.

Love the wagon. The rear overhang is a lot, but maybe that is part of the weight equalization equation.
The "El Camino :-)" looks too cartoonish to me. Maybe just because of the yellow color.
Regarding the link above to the Ford wagon, My taste must be in my mouth because I think it really sucks with a capital 'S'. Looks like a photoshop of a Failane concept with a Mercedes R

Meanwhile, I think the daft Holden "Go.." advertising theme is being stretched a bit too far...
"Go harder"??? :)

Just hope the wagon has rear head restraints unlike the Falcon wagon and previous base Commodore wagons. Totally negligent to omit these features and makes a joke of the claim that these car makers are safety conscious.
That big Commodore land barge will weigh a ton and use quite a lot of gas, particularly the 6.0 liter V8. I would seriously consider buying one if they had a fuel-sipping modern turbo-diesel version.
Also, I think the rear overhang seems so large because there is virtually no front overhang on the big rear driver.
