Cracks in the dam: Redesigned Honda Fit images hit the web
The Honda-obsessives over at the Temple of VTEC were able to get a number of pre-release images showing the redesigned Honda Fit, and according to the writer, we'll see a host of official images coming out of Japan at the end of the month. The first shot (right) reveals a heavily redesigned front clip, with headlamps pulled steeply towards the A-pillar, along with a new bumper and hood that takes cues from the Euro-spec Civic.
Along with the front-end, the rear gets a revised hatch, new taillamps and bumper and a mildly tweaked D-pillar with more of an up kick, reducing the size of the hatch's rear window.
We'll be on the lookout for more images in the next few days, but in the meantime, you can check out all the shots TOV procured here.
Top tip, Bennet!

Looks like it should be an Acura from the outside, but from the inside it looks like a downgrade.

I personally like the fit for mostly safety, quality and value. It does really well in the crash test compared to it's competitors and is a great value. I think the new design is going to be an improvement and Honda is one of the few car companies our family actually trust. Our friends bought their daughter a new Aveo and it is a total piece o' junk and came out to be the same price. We were like how could you let a loved one drive a car that gets rated poor in crash test? Some people carry such a ideology about domestic cars that they would put their own family at risk. Cheers

looks awesome.
by that of course I mean I'd rather ride a tricycle.

why not the LS2LS7? 5:20PM (8/24/2007)
that's horrible. The fit is currently the best looking tiny car in the US. Why mess it up like this?

The Fit is by far the ugliest and most anonymous and torqueless commuter vehicle on the road right now. Talk about a complete non-design, inside and out. Most unenjoyable car I have ever test driven - McHonda's exteriors tend to be even more McGeneric than the Fisher Price interiors. Except it did have a decent paint job. Even the salesman made a couple jokes about trying to drive the thing on the freeway. Worse test drive than the McCivic, which was friggin' miserable...

Are you on crack? The FIT is Fugly. Anything would be an improvement. It is the ugliest hatch that Honda ever made, it looks just like a tired Suzuki Aerio.

I wouldn't get upset till actual images arrive...this might be a hoax.
That thing looks like a Yaris.

Wow, what a huge improvment. In my opinion of course.
I felt that the first gen Fit to reach North America looked like a bland toy for non car people.
This one seems to have lots of style.
I hope the huge sunroof (pana-roof some call it) comes to North America.
That alone would make it cool.

Another dope-mobile that people are going to fall for. Sad state of affairs. We have become a monkey see, monkey do society regardless of how silly we make ourselves look. There is only one place for cars like this: Disneyland.

The silly monkeys are the ones who don't understand: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't think so. These cars stem from the family of cheap economy cars. There is nothing to get excited over. And the tiny wheel openings and tiny wheels with the top-heavy greenhouse looks like something from a cartoon. It's only recently some major automakers have made some well put together ones that has gotten some sales going. This has gotten society used to seeing them now, so it's not as bad of a shock when another one is shoved in our face. But remember the roots... they are cheap, econo cars for people who cannot afford anything nicer. You are fooling yourself otherwise.

Still, why complain about ugly cars and those who drive them? If everyone has the same taste in cars as you do, you can: (a) expect to pay more to buy the car you want as the dealer puts you on a waiting list, and (b) forget about any exclusivity that your car might have enjoyed otherwise. Besides, an ugly car serves to beautify the other cars around it.
BTW, in case you're wondering: I don't think much of the Honda Fit, the current gen or the next gen. But it's not as if Honda defaced a classic, the way Chris Bangle did. Like I said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Jason 1:19AM (8/25/2007)
Fair enough. Don't even get me started on what Bangle has forced us to accept the last six years. ; )

I love it, looks more pug-nosed (like the Yaris) and that's a good thing. PLEASE Honda, bring the glass roof option to Canada.

Keep in mind that the current US Fit does not look exactly like the Japan market Fit or Euro market Jazz. All three models have different fascias/bumpers for their markets. The US model specifically has about 5-6 inches of added length to the bumper to meet US safety standards.
When the new version comes stateside I'm sure it will have similar changes, so the car will lose some of that "pug-nosed" look due to a longer front end. It may also have a restyled lower fascia to use North American Honda design cues (where the photo above is using the design cues off of the Euro market Civic, and other JDM and EUDM Honda's that we do not get here.

Take the old Fit, rear end the Honda Odyssey and kazaam, you've got the new Fit. They should have shoved the Civic or Accord face on it instead.

I'm pretty surprised at all the fit-bashing here. Yeah, it's only got like 105 horsepower, but it's a good, fun drive for under 15k.

The lower front kinda looks like the UK Civic.

Forgot to add - compared to the unFit for the Road, test drive a Scion xD. Now THAT was a fun car to drive, wonderful interior and exterior - and something McHonda can't seem to achieve; TORQUE! Wonderful car, can't recommend it enough. Sadly the MPGs are disappointing...

You mean Mctoyo that seems to be more appropriate in the minds of most people.
