Lexus provides IS-F prize for Wii tennis tournament

To tie into its sponsorship of the U.S. Open, Lexus is going to host a "Virtual Tennis Open" using the Nintendo Wii. The tourney will be for charity, but the top prize of a one-year lease on a Lexus IS-F is for the winner to keep and use as he or she pleases. Hosted by tennis champ Andy Roddick, the tourney will take place at New York's Rockefeller Center next month, while money gathered from entrant fees in the three-day tournament will benefit the Andy Roddick Foundation for neglected, abused and sick children. The IS-F, which we just saw in action up in Monterey, will also be one of the prizes awarded to the men's champion in the real U.S. Open next month.

That big side scoop is very odd looking from this angle. I don't like it, at least not as shown. And it sticks out so far it looks like it would be aerodynamically inefficient, again, not a good look for a sports car.
No thanks.

I am still surprised that Lexus made this car. They seem to try so hard most of the time to appeal to baby boomers with yawn-mobiles like the LS, ES, and base models of the GS.
That side wing/deflector/piece of whimsy gives this car attitude that stands out.
Congrats to Lexus.
And in the interest of making this post regarding the Wii thing.... Umm... Nintendo.

I saw a badgless IS-F on the Autobahn A62 about a month back. It was a nice deep black, almost didn't notice it. He was in the right lane and I was passing in a minivan. Then I noticed the bulge on the hood, and looked at him. It was instant, I knew who he was, and he knew I knew. He got on the brakes as I got in front of him, and then he wouldn't get any closer than about 3 car lengths. As soon as traffic cleared, he darted out in the left lane and floored it. I could just barely get a couple quick pics w/ my phone. The scoop didn't look so big. It looked more like on the RX-8. Closer to a trim piece than a gaping maw. Looked well done. Production versions I'm guessing based on that won't be so in your face Racer-Boy

Nice 'prize'...a 12-month rental. What's the mileage limitation?

Tell me about it! Darn, and my plan for if I ever won something like this is to sell it.
I guess its to fight "greedy bastids" like myself.

Oh no....Couldn't they have had a Gran Turismo 5 tournament instead? At least that would appeal to the right demographic.

"you mean the corvette owners of today?"
Yes, but by buying the Lexus they are trying to be more trendy and cool when they will look even more lame.

What a horrible car.
I imagine drivers of these cars to be cheesy 40 to 50 year old hairy men with gold chains around their neck and a girlfriend on the side of their marriage....Basically richer versions of dudes who drove. Trans Ams or Eldorados in the late 80's.

Ya, man like a bunch of Italians I knew
they might have been plumbers
but this was way back in the 80's ...

Horrible car? You got to test drive it yourself? Do tell more.
MiniMe 10:55PM (8/22/2007)
It's supposed to be an "M3 Fighter". M3 has all, style, performance, character, and Lexus is still just a "wanna-be" in all of that.

There is no overcoming the fact this is yet another 4 door "old man" car. The bizarre/ugly slab sided rear fender makes it look like there's a ton of bricks in the trunk.
No amount of marketing can will attract the younger crowd to a sedan, regardless of performance. As long as Lexus refuses to make a reasonably priced and attractive 2 door coupe or 2 door hatch, they will only attract that older generation. And no, the SC430 doesn't even come close, not in the looks or price department. And slab sided rear fenders with that retro German, tire rubbing look, need not apply.

I'd take that over a Bimmer any day, I work next door to a Bimmer dealership and it's funny how many Bimmer owners also own a Toyota for when the Bimmer breaks down.

Too bad I don't live near NYC [live in Texas] or I would go.
I have a Wii and this would be fun.
Too bad its the IS, if I had to pick a Lexus I'd go with the LS460.

Americans can't manufacture an excellent car like a Lexus/IS-F.
