Dr. Bez spills the beans, announces DBS pricing

Our friend Lou Ann Hammond of Carlist was among the small cadre of early-rising journos who ventured out to Pebble Beach's 18th green on Thursday morning to see Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin, formally introduce the DBS (video here). Now, while pricing on the sumptuous supercar apparently wasn't supposed to be announced until the Frankfurt show in September, an enthused Dr. Bez went ahead and told those gathered, "this is a car which will cost, in America, $265,000."So there you have it. Now, please excuse us while we go check last night's lottery numbers.

"this is a car which will cost, in America, $265,000."
And sadly, there's nothing about this Ford-turd that's worth a third of that price.

Why do you have to continually bash this car? Once again, it has nothing to do with Ford, and you are the turd here.

Are you out of your mind?! That thing is incredible. A work of art.

Are you high? The DBS is the pinnacle of Aston design.

I think it's worth it, but in the back of my mind it seems like alot. The M6 has roughly the same hp, but costs maybe 150k less. Granted, the M6 doesn't look nearly as gorgeous as this car from the inside or from the outside, but is that worth 150k more?
You can use the money you'd save in buying an M6, and spend it on pimping it up. Or, you can buy an Alpina B6 and pay the import fees to get it into the States and you'd still have enough money left over to buy an Audi R8!

I think Aston Martin understands something that companies like Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and Hyundai don't. Yes performance is important and even value to some extent but for a true premium luxury brand uniqueness and cachet of ownership are by far and away the most important qualities.
Here in Southern California where I live we see alot of "high end" automobiles Mercedes, BMW's and Lexus' and alot of these cars look alike. Sometimes when I drive I wonder is that rear end from a Lexus SC 430 or a Porsche? The cars here all assuming that similar swooping curved body style, as if all the designers graduated from the same class of the same design school. In fact styles have become so similar that even the humble KIA Amati and Chrysler's 300M bear a such striking resemblence to Bentley's Continental Silver Spur, that the real thing almost goes unnoticed in the presence of fakes.
However Aston has designed a car that's much more striking and unique than anything anyone else is offering. Porsche, BMW,Lexus and Kia are all a dime a dozen out here however when you see an Aston on the road in southern California you know that you are looking at a car with true cachet that would stick as much in Southern California as it would in Southern Zimbabwae.
Huray to Aston for building a truely unique and striking luxury automobile.
