MTM Audi RTT: R8-beating, Bauhaus lunacy

One of the scribes contracted by World Car Fans just wrapped up some seat time in the supercharged MTM Audi RTT, and says, despite the love-fest going on over the Audi R8, its MTM-massaged baby brother can give it more than a run for its money.
Focusing more on outright speed than competent handling, our tuner tour guide provides us a straight-forward account of the RTT's accelerative qualities, citing a 0-62 MPH time of 4.1 seconds, a half-second less than Audi's high-dollar mid-engine masterpiece. Beyond the blower, which brings output up to 415 HP and 368 lb.-ft. of torque, the RTT also benefits from an R8-inspired body kit (€2000), although surprisingly, MTM has left the stock suspension in its place – something they'll rectify with the right amount of cash.
With an entry fee of just under €73,000, it certainly isn't for the faint of heart. But then again, neither is its performance.

Euro €73K is about USD $98K, which is just 10% less than the USD $109K for the R8.

But the thing about the R8's Pricetag is that the listed price is the MSRP. The actualy price with dealer invoice will be around 150k because there are only going to be about 300 R8's in the US.

Isn't this about double what a TT usually costs? Why bother? Even with the great numbers, isn't double a bit ridiculous?

The R8 isn't built for just goddamn drag racing. Woo-hoo, this beats it by half a second to 62 mph. The R8 is still the better looking, better sounding, better handling, more exclusive chick magnet.

Agreed. An R8 is... Well an R8!!!
The TT is for most of us common-folk and we aren't likely to drop another 30+ Grand to make it a second or so quicker than what it is from the factory. 5,4 sec to 60 is just fine in this class and the TT will never have the cache' of an R8 no matter what modifications it has.

Haven't magazines gotten RS4s down to 4.3 or 4.2 seconds? I'd be stunned if the R8 couldn't do at least 4 seconds flat to 60mph if that's the case considering weight, engine placement and the manual gearbox is even better than in the RS4, with the auto thing probably being faster in a straight line like the Porsche one. And yeah, who would buy an R8 caring about drag racing anyways, that's what a Z06 or Viper is for.
Their RS4 was a lot cooler than this.

Magazine tests have gotten the R8 down to 4.0 sec flat. The quickest test was 3.9 sec to 60mph. Just wait until the R10 is announced in September.
What i find interesting is that Porsche is now working with Audi to make joint platform sportscars. Audi will have an R4 that the next Boxster will share platforms with. Audi will also have an R6 in a few more years. If the R8 is any sign of things to come, the R4/R6/R10 mid-engined cars will give us buyers more selection.

If I had to choose between this TT and an R8, I would have a hard time turning down the TT. Call me crazy, but I don't care for the R8's look. Although, I really like the new TT.
