Subaru Impreza Outback will rock the two-tone

When we first saw the new Subaru Impreza and Tribeca at the New York Auto Show, we were a little disappointed with the overall styling direction. It seems as though Subaru wanted to play it safe with two of its most important models, but little did we know, the worst was yet to come. After seeing the two-tone 2008 Outback on the VWvortex forums, we think Subaru just abandoned safe in favor of just plain ugly. Although we can appreciate the dearth of plastic cladding surrounding the Outback, it honestly looks like the plant where this beauty was assembled ran out of paint for the front and rear bumpers, and we're seeing bare plastic. This Subaru may be the worst interpretation of two-tone paint of the 21st century. Congratulations Aztek, you're off the hook. At this point, body cladding would be like a gift from Harley Earl. I could do that with any picture of a car and 15 min with Photoshop. I doubt this is real.

this isnt the first picture of the new Outback. this syncs with the spyshots shown earlier so, umm, yeah, this probably is for real.
seems like Toyota concentrated its interest in the company on making sure subaru is as bland as a corolla.
which doesnt mesh well with the two-tone concept.
they would have been better off eliminating the Outback version as they truly dont GET the intent.

Wow it is real! I never looked at the old spy shot closely enough apparently. I also never thought a car company could be that stupid...

and some dumb ass @ corp. probably got complimented for being 'innovative and imaginative'
once again, subie showing they know NOTHING about styling.
"Subaru, safe, dependable, and butt ugly"

yep, pretty bad. the two tone on the new scooby is like a full body rash on an ugly girl. from bad to worse.
but hey, i'm not a flanel wearing woman over 50 living in the rockies so what does my opinion matter for the outback? so long as she likes it...

Ha ha very funny - maybe this color treament will be called Pearlescent Invisi-ugly.
I love it when Japanese companies act as stupidly as American car co's - it makes me feel like we have a fighting chance.

Remember when the Forester came out and was kinda cute? And then it just got uglier and uglier? Why is this happening with practically all Subarus? At least they fixed the Tribeca by turning it into the Tribeca Fe, but for crap's sake, who is approving these designs?

So who is going to start: www.swapoutbackbumper.com ???
Imagine people hooking up with others who have the alternate color bumpers and matching them up with their car. If you get it going now you could start an entire industry!!!!

I saw it in person at my local dealership with the 2 tone silver and I honestly thought it looked great. The silver accents with the clear brake lights really looked good together. I'm a former bugeye WRX owner, and I REALLY do like the new look of the impreza. The interior was 10x improved compared to the previous gen. The only downside I saw was that the hatchback has significantly less storage space than the old Wagon did.

Does anyone have a phone number for the design department at Subaru? We need to give them a call. It could be like we are calling our congressional representatives and demanding change! I didn't think the early Bangle years at BMW could be topped, but boy Subaru sure is trying.
But, this opinion is coming from someone who thought the last Tribeca was both unique and cool looking.

Let reliability, quality and other positive things aside, Japanese were never famous for designing good-looking cars. Honda was probably the best, but even it could be called "inoffensively conservative" at its best. Nissan made great strides, not on its own, but with help from Renault, effectively making it the best looking Japanese cars in history of Japan (in my opinion, of course). Among them, Mitsubishi and Subaru have always prominently shined as companies responsible for the hideousness worth mentioning. Latest Subaru creations are not exceptions. Taking hints from Chinese Chery and, when Subaru designers are capable of copying given their total lack of skills, from Hyundai, Subaru blessed the world with the latest Impreza and Tribeca. Way to go!

*shrug* I like it. If the lower paint is somehow thicker or more durable, I like it even more.
Tells me that it can be taken over gravel, sand, tall brush, and all manner of abrasives without dinging/scratching the upper paint all-to-hell. It seems to fit in well with the purpose of the Outback trim level.
All that being said, car aesthetics are highly subjective.

Nellydesign, it's real. There are many more pictures here:

And if someone really wanted to find an unreleased subaru outback model and then take the time to add an odd silver dual tone clad to every picture "in 15 minutes" then umm... I don't know what to think.
