eBay Find of the Day: 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX

Having trouble finding a 2008 Impreza WRX? You try looking on eBay yet? Apparently not, because eBay member fbdodgesubaru's auction for possibly one of the very first U.S. 08 WRX's ended with no bids. "Just off the truck," the auction says, with cloth seats, CD, 17" wheels, auto climate control, no mods and only 7 miles.
Opening bid on the auction was $27,164, which is exactly $1,000 more than is on the Monroney sticker of the very car at Fred Beans Subaru in Doylestown, Penn. Good try, Mr. Beans, but looks like you're gonna have to sell this one the old-fashioned way. Maybe next time start the auction at sticker and let the bids rise from there.
Thanks for the tip, Will!

I'm trying to let it grow on me, but I still don't like it.

I dunno...the looks are starting to grow on me.

I hate to admit it, but, I'm really starting to like Subie's styling. I'm still not a fan of hatchbacks, but, I do like the styling on the front end. If there was an option to get one without AWD, I might even be interested.
I've only been in two situations where I needed more than 2WD. In both situations, I was on ice and had no weight on my drive wheels. I don't see those two instances as a reason to have AWD. Two instances in over 100K miles isn't enough for me. I've used 4WD in my truck a whole twice to please my passengers.
Offer a Subie with FWD or RWD, I'm not picky, and I'll visit the dealership. Hell, offer it with a 4WD transfer case, so I can choose when I need the extra drive wheels, and I'll visit the dealer.

Jaymez - If you really like the vanilla bland and painfully uninspired styling of the new WRX, then you're an even bigger frigtard than your preference for 2WD would suggest.

Don't worry, the Subie's turbo 4 will help you to get into lots of fun situations that require AWD.

Hmmmm, agreed. Uglyer then the new forester. On the bright side for Subaru fans, the Legacy series seems to only get better looking with time.

New car, no takers.
In this case, it's absolutely no surprise.
Back to the drawing board and case closed for Soobie.

I went to Fred Beans Subaru in Doylestown this afternoon to check out the wrx's. They had 1 sedan wrx that was black, but was an automatic. They also had a few of the hatchbacks, which I didn't really like. The sedan, however, looked great. Good enough that I will track down a manual trans sedan and drive it. If the drive sucks, I'll probably just go get a mazdaspeed6. If I like it, I'll put my order in and wait a month or two.
All wrx's had the honeycomb grill. Regular imprezas have the chrome grill.
Oh, the dealership sucks by the way. I stood there for 20-30 minutes, then went into the showroom and stood there for another 10, but no one came to help. Oh well, their loss.

I drove a 2008 Impreza Sedan today. I was surprised at how nice the interior is. I have a small review on my site but no pictures until next week. I love the dual exhaust.

Does this dealer think customers forget who tried to overcharge for a vehicle? Couldn't he at least pack it with paint and fabric sealant, undercoat, pinstripes and other assorted lipstick to try to justify more bucks for this piggy? And who's going to Doylestown to pay extra? Geez!

The 07 MS3 slaughters it and eat it for breakfast. Want proof? Here it is: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/ViewModelDetail/make=Mazda/model=MAZDASPEED%20MAZDA3#2

You can keep your FWD torque steer, and I'll stick with AWD or RWD.

Ditto. I've driven them both (well, a 2002 and 2005 and 2007 WRX) - I heartily disagree. The Soob is simply a lot more fun to drive - but I also don't like FWD at all... Something about being dragged around by the front wheels never gets fun. The MS3 steering wheel tugging left/right in your hands just from going over railroad tracks didn't inspire much confidence. Probably the last FWD car I'll ever test drive. Still, a nicely built car - regardless, I'd rather have a 2008 WRX. The black looks great.

FWD has no place in anything with sporting pretensions, period. Yes, I'm aware that there are a number of FWD cars that handle well, and some that have been very successful racing cars. I don't care. I dislike the way they drive and regardless of their objective performance, they don't handle the way I expect a car to handle. Thus, imo, FWD is utterly worthless for performance applications.
And even if it weren't wrong wheel drive, the Mazda 3 somehow manages to be even *uglier* than the WRX.
As far as the auction goes... every time I see one of these things it makes me even happier that I bought a STI Limited rather than waiting for the '08s. The Imprezas may never have been particularly good looking cars, but up until this redesign I've never found them particularly offensive. This car, on the other hand, gets uglier every time I see it. Ugh.

I don't want it really badly.

There should be a law permitting eBay users to lynch very stupid sellers.
