Nice interior but nothing special on the outside. If anything its a little garish with the rear aluminum slab and the Pontiac aero-lines on the side. I don't think that the marketplace needs a new huge van that gets well under 20 in the city. Nor do we need a bigger luxurious Element or an Aztec redo. I wish the mustang was half as classy. Oh yeah bring back the Fairlane name please before launch.

Tim

Comments on 2009 Ford Flex preliminary pricing starts at $28,700

It looks like something AMC would have created in the 1970s in a desperate bid to stay afloat.

TriShield

Comments on 2009 Ford Flex preliminary pricing starts at $28,700

I was hoping they'd do the same thing with the variable pricing they did for the Volvo C30... to see what people are willing to pay.

polar

Comments on 2009 Ford Flex preliminary pricing starts at $28,700

It is... my pricing for the Base SE $26,770, and the limited started at $34,510.

polar

Comments on 2009 Ford Flex preliminary pricing starts at $28,700

My most expensive, is 45,100, with all options selected.

polar

Comments on 2009 Ford Flex preliminary pricing starts at $28,700

The problem with the new Volvo pricing is No Optional Engines, as in smaller, more fuel efficient engines.
Like, Volvo's 1.9 L diesel.

mike-1-2-7

Comments on 2009 Ford Flex preliminary pricing starts at $28,700

First off, this is the first time any interior pics have been made available of the production unit (that I have seen on Autoblog). So Autoblog, you should have headed the story with photos finally available, not pricing. Those interested in this car want to SEE it first, above anything else. Second, this thing is nothing but a bloated Scion xB. Third, the Pontiac stikes along the side are hideous and ruin it in a second. Ford... Pontiac finally got rid of all this look after the public and media bashed it's design for two decades... do you not follow auto stories? Appearantly not. Do I want to buy a car from a car company that doesn't pay attention? No. Lastly, Ford has once again over-priced it's latest. This box should be $21g out the door. It has nothing expensive, elegant, or upscale built in. Just a large Scion box toy for kids to change their interior colors on. Final note, $160 for xenons? Must be a misprint in Ford's website. If not, I give it one star for this one feature. You can have the rest.

Jason

Comments on 2009 Ford Flex preliminary pricing starts at $28,700

I have to agree, this is disappointing product. The truth is, this thing is an AMAZING package. Sitting in the 2nd row feels like being in a limo. The interior fit and finish is quite a step above previous Fords, and as for the "Pontiac Strakes", Pontiac's mistake was adding goofy plastic cladding to every vehicle with ribs molded into it to try and add interest to body panels that hadn't been very well designed to begin with. These are formed into the sheetmetal and well integrated and subtle IMO. The jury is still out on the chrome thing on the tail, but you don't have to get that.

Oh, and btw, take a look at the options list and then show me where all those options can be had on an XB. And the new XB only gets 27 hwy for its 3000 lb turd of a vehicle.

But I will agree, FLEX is a stupid name.

Nellydesign

Comments on 2009 Ford Flex preliminary pricing starts at $28,700

I saw a Flex at the Ford booth at the Oshkosh air show a couple weeks ago. While the PR people weren't looking, I sat in it for a while. The interior resembled that of the Edge, but the front seats hurt like hell. I think it looks like a Mini Cooper, but three times bigger. That's a shame...the Mini is sized as it should be, so Ford really screwed up on this one. I should mention that according to cars direct, you can pick up a base Honda Pilot for about 20 grand, so this thing is quite a rip-off.

1337

Comments on 2009 Ford Flex preliminary pricing starts at $28,700

It doesn't matter how roomy the seats are. The dash is still plain, flat, boring, and out-dating already. And the side body strakes are a Pontiac que that was bashed by the auto magazines and critics for years. It's not just cladding that got the bad wrap. It was too many toy-looking lines dug into the side of a car. Alas, I should have mentioned the front seat bottoms look like they have ZERO side support. Flat, wide perches perfect for overweight America... just like those "limo" backseats. You can have it, I pass.

Jason

Comments on 2009 Ford Flex preliminary pricing starts at $28,700

I like it.
