Keep track of your fuel use with My Milemarker

With gasoline prices sometimes spiking above $3, it's good to know just how much of the stuff you're burning. And as a good car owner, you know the best way to do that is to habitually keep track of how many miles you've driven, how many gallons you've pumped and how often you change your car's oil.
The easiest way, of course, is to just keep a small notebook and pen in your glovebox. But if you've abandoned such ancient technology for more modern record-keeping, maybe you should give My Milemarker a try. It's a new website that helps you keep track of things like how much fuel you're burning, how much money you're spending on that fuel and how often you're changing your oil.
It's simple, ad-free interface even lets you text message your information from your mobile phone. Or, if you have a laptop (or an iPhone), you can input the info directly. It will even keep track of multiple cars.
It's a sweet melding of geek and automotive. Oh, and it's free.

How funny, I suggested this very thing to MyDreamApp. Any affiliation here? I'd like my royalty check if so.

Wow, I calculate my fuel mileage using a new thing called a Calculator. It's pretty kick ass.

I've always tracked my mileage here: www.brianbauer.org. Have no idea where I heard of the site, but I have about 30k worth of mileage on there, so I don't think I'll be switching anytime soon.
Not to mention that the MMM site asks for the actual odometer reading. I'm used to using a trip reading for that and resetting it on fill up. So it doesn't just do a simple calculation right away - which is what I want.
It's a nice site, but I'm just too far into my regular habit to bother switching.

Heh, I use an Excel spreadsheet with my own algorithm. Pretty nice stating my MPG in figures to I think about 10 decimals LOL

I also use an Excel spreadsheet which (automatically) outputs some nice graphs and such, but I have to print out that stupid receipt, note mileage on it, carry it around until I hit my computer, type it all in. Just recently I quit using it after 30,000 miles of input just because it's a pain in the butt. Now if I can do all this at the pump (from my iPhone) and not carry around that receipt, I'm all for it. Good work, guys.

An iPhone is the only web capable mobile phone? Is this blog entry a free plug for Apple at the ignorance of the rest of the many capable phones?

Taking a look at the picture it shows a Treo, witch is a PDA phone that has web compatibilities. The reason the iPhone is suggested, is because most (but not all) mobile phones with internet need a optimised page, witch this site may not have for now. Oh and besides i use my MacBook Pro to track my milage.

Or, you can simply use your brain and a piece of paper, even the back of the bill works.

I've always preferred using the mileage tracking at fueleconomy.gov it makes it simple (write your mileage on your gas receipt) and furthermore it puts your car into a "mileage from users like you" grid alongside the epa mileage reports. It's even good about catching ridiculously high mileage in case you accidentally lose a receipt or something.

www.fueleconomy.gov does those things just as well.

I just take a picture of the odometer and the pump with my phone when I fill up. Then I put the data into a spreadsheet. I also track maintenance, and mileage against condition (city/hwy, top up/down).
This is pretty much the only use for a crappy cameraphone I've found.

Or, if you've got a Palm or Windows Mobile based PDA or smartphone, you can get AutoMobile from www.linkesoft.com. It calculates more than mileage, enter all your expenses and it'll tell you your current and average MPG, average monthly and yearly mileage and your cost per mile. It'll generate pretty graphs too.

Found other sites that can help you track your mileage - http://www.gasaroo.com/ and http://mpgtune.com/
Any idea which one it better than the others?
Or Excel rules? :)
