File this under do as I say, not as I do.
Crooks and Liars has a, shall we way, interesting clip of an ad by Rush Limbaugh promoting General Motors vehicles. In the spot, the paragon of right-wing bluster praises GM's latest environmentally-friendly vehicles and technologies (hybrids, hydrogen, etc.). He starts the ad by saying how GM's vehicles have never been better. Oh, and he loooooves his Escalade and Suburban SUVs. What?!? Who makes an ad praising greener driving and then name drops those two gas-suckers?

Oh. Right.

And why is GM using a figure who thinks global warming is bogus to sell green cars? It's hard to tell, but remember they're the people who brought you the Aztek. We have a lot of good things to say about GM's work on cars like the Volt, but I'm having a hard time seeing how the decision to release this particular commercial ends up gaining GM anything.

Listen for yourself.

      I like Rush, he's funny...he makes me laugh...like a clown.

He's right to cash in on the greening of America if he drags a couple of his right-wing followers in so much the better. Walk more, drive less. It's better for you.

Thanks to you LIBERALS, we can now pay $3.00 a gallon for gas. Let's see, have not built a REFINERY in over 30 yeras. Have not built a NUke plant in over 35 years I believe. Can't drill in ANWAR. Can't drill in the North Shale deposits where it is estimated that there are over 1 TRILLION barrels of OIL, more than all the KNOW reserves as of today. Can't drill off of the Gulf Coast but CHINA, our ENEMY is now drilling there taking our OIL! Over 100 formulations of GAS to increase the price by by decreasing SUPPLY and all based on 1988 data, which was FAULTY.

Let's see what else Liberal do, Tell me how much WATER can come out of my SHOWER head. How much WATER can go down my TOILET.

Hilter was on the RIHGT??? Whoever thinks this is a friggin FRUIT LOOP!

      Major dittos to Golden Boy.

I don't consider myself an environmentalist, as such. I'm highly skeptical of the Global Warming Crisis, and if it does eventually turn out to be bogus, then it's going to cause huge damage to environmentalism in general.

I do think that Peak Oil and US dependence on foreign oil are more pressing concerns. I also like to go fast. I've been on the Tesla Roadster waiting list for more than six months.

I didn't see anything wrong with Rush's ad. GM's product quality has, in fact, increased dramatically over the last few years. They have every right to crow about that. GM is, in fact, working on a lot of alt-fuel technology. How serious they are about bringing that to market is something we can question, but of course they are going to crow about it in their ads. No surprise there. GM also makes some popular, large SUVs. Rush likes them, a lot of people do. No surprise there. I don't see anything here to get outraged over.

Anyhow, outrage and righteous indignation are supposed to be Rush's stock in trade, not ABG's. :)

Gotta agree w/ Golden Boy on this one. (Are the two-mode hybrids even for sale yet?) Might be a good idea to lose the vitriol for conservatives and welcome them to the coalition, even if their motives (environment vs. national security) are different...

Linking the American vehicle buyer with a flaccid, drug addicted, fat man!!!

I'm 73 yrs old and have been driving (only) 27 total GM vehicles for the last 57 years with zero breakdowns, not even one flat tire. Not even Rush could make me change auto companies.

It's amazing to me how you people take this idiot's comments about anything to heart.

In follow-up, Ole Rush will help sell a lot of GM vehicles to the Repubs.

Fact: GM vehicle quality is best it has been in 2 decades...but it still is 3 to 6 times less reliable than Toyota vehicles over the last 3 years. 21 GM vehicles made the Consumer Reports "don't buy" used vehicle list (out of a total of 61 ). Ford had 17, but Toyota had none on the list. Toyota vehicles had more than half of the "do buy list."

Fact: Toyota vehicles have already hit >95% recycelability...their target is 100%. They are more "green" than GM by far and dominate mroe than 50% of the hybrid vehicle market.

Fact: Published today, the new GM dual-mode hybrid is estimated to cost between $6,000 and $10,000 for the system, depending on the vehicle size and weight. This is much more prohibitive than the extra $3,000 to $5,000 identified for the Toyota system. FYI, the nicely selling Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner hybrids use liscensed Toyota technology...bet you did not know that either!

Fact: Toyota has now placed Hydrogen-powered fuel cell cars in Europe, Japan, and the US (at UC Berkeley) for evaluation prior to any major committment to mass production....You might see the GM Volt in another 3 years...emphasis on "might."

I think if you really listen to Rush, he:
      1. loves the environment
      2. Doesn't believe that WE cause Global warming...it happens naturally and has for hundreds of years.

If you want to talk about a hypocrate, look at Gore...the biggest "carbob footprint" ever, not doing anything about it but telling Us WE need to do whatever he tells us to do.

So, nom de plume prefers vacationing in Europe and plans to retire there. Just wonderful! Let me be the first to suggest France. Once there he can become a muslim. Why not, France will be the next largest Islamic country outside of the middle-east. Enjoy yourself "no name."

As for me, I'll stay here and enjoy my freedoms and choices. SUV or Mini? Hmmmm, let me see.

Thank goodness Rush feels this way. If this idiot was ever right about anything at all I think it would knock the Earth off it's axis.
