The JDM Toyota with the most peculiar name (it's up against some pretty tough competition on that front), the "ist", had a face lift and heart transplant today.
Replacing the original 2002 model, which was sold Stateside as the Scion xA, the new car is still a front wheel drive hatchback, but has taken on distinctly crossover-ish dimensions, and comes with a choice of 1.5 and 1.8 liter motors as opposed to the 1.3 and 1.5 liter line up of old. Prices are a bit below the near-identical US spec Scion xD, starting at $13,800 for a CVT equipped 1.5 but rising to almost $16,000 for the 1.8 with an electronic four speed auto.

So in German it's the 'is' whatever. That thing has to be a real slug with the 1.3L

If there was any country that wouldn't want the xA to be beefed up, wouldn't it be Japan?

This isn't a facelift but a complete new model. You will find more pictures here:

And 1.3L is fine for a car like that. Not everyone wants a heavy V6 under the hood..

Very much the proportions of the Chevrolet Beat (one of the triplets, I forget the name). High cowl, very upright, stubby nose.
I like it.
And I'm disappointed to see GM two steps behind again.

You forgot to let everyone know that the 1.5L model also has 4wd available, which would be awesome for people in Canada and the northern states, but once again we only get the bigger engine, because its what "the majority of Americans want", But at least Toyota seems fit to provide us with this model the same year it is release in Japan, unlike some other European automakers.
