Spy Shots: 2009 BMW 7-Series
Although we can't make out much of the Concept CS styling cues we hoped for, we wanted to share these newest photos of the once-again-refreshed top Bimmer. Brenda Priddy & Company captured this bahn-burner for Car and Driver and you can see the whole gallery of pics by clicking the image at right. When you get there, you'll discover a few more spy photos of the 2009 BMW 7-series. Similar to the pics we showed you a couple of weeks ago, these are street shots of a heavily disguised mule. While the exterior changes are expected to be merely evolutionary and bring the current 3-series cues into the fold, there are much bigger changes under the skin.
We've already talked about the longer wheelbase and wider track, which should keep the handling distinctly BMW. There's also that new slate of engine choices on tap, including a hybrid and twin-turbo V8 diesel coming. All that plus a new ZF eight-speed gearbox and a revised iDrive system. As C and D points out, the Bangle-Butt seems to be making a comeback for '09, but the 6-series-like nose should balance out the love/hate ratio.
Thanks for the tip, Edmondo!

When I sent the tip in I was pretty underwhelmed and would have understood if these new pics were ignored. Is there something weird going on with the front headlights or is it just me? And, it's almost cliche to talk about how bad the "Bangle-butt" is but really, BMW has to go in a new direction with the rear end.
