While Bimmerphiles are still unwinding from the excitement of the launch of the 1-Series coupe, and the spy shots of the upcoming 1-Series convertible, a team in France has been hard at work building a 1-Series-based Dakar racetruck.
The monster truck called the Trio is the brainchild of Pascal Boutet, and shares about as much in common with the 1-Series hatchback, whose likeness it bares, as a NASCAR stocker shares with the family sedans they're made to resemble. Under the fiberglass body, the unique chassis cradles BMW's stock 3-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel delivering 265 horsepower. The Trio will be hitting its top speed of 185 km/h (115 mph) when it hits the trail in the 2008 Dakar rally.

CORRECTION: "...a carbon fiber silhouette of a BMW 1 series to race in Dakar. Does not contain any production parts at all..."

Wow, that would make an awesome diecast model or toy!
Somehow, despite the obvious non-stock nature of this "truck," it still looks way more realistic than any NASCAR stocker I've seen in the past 20 years. Look like real BMW headlights to me...

Lifted car/SUV things are pretty cool to me for some reason. I know they have them in Russia. Wouldn't it be cool if a major manufacturer came out with one?
Okay maybe not...but I still stand by my previous statements.

They have some strong competition in Dakar. I hope they keep up with Volkswagen and have a good team. The only good thing about winter is the Dakar Rally and I can hardly wait.

They should make a production version of this
and lower the height to X3 standards with real interior
and exterior components.
