The Opel Calibra could be reborn from the GTC concept
Back in 1990, Opel introduced a sleek new front-wheel-drive Vectra-based coupe called the Calibra to replace the old Manta. The Calibra was popular in Europe through most of the decade and formed the basis for Opel's DTM efforts in the early to mid '90s before fading into the sunset. In the last few years, Opel and Vauxhaul have offered the now discontinued RWD Holden Monaro coupe and now they are looking for a replacement, which may end up being a new Calibra. Last March at the Geneva Motor Show, Opel showed off the GTC concept coupe that revealed the design direction for the next generation Vectra. The GTC proved to be so popular that Opel is now looking at adding a production version of the coupe to European dealerships. A range of four- and six-cylinder gas and diesel engines will provide efficiency and decent performance for the new Calibra, which may be on sale by the end of the decade.

You obviously did not see the 07 Opel GTC concept. It was simply gorgeous, and this rendering takes nearly all of it's cues from the GTC concept. In saying that, Opel would have ripped this car off of ..... wait for it.... Opel.
Here is to praying that this car makes it to the US. It would contend very well with the Altima coupe, Accord Coupe, Mazda RX-8, and who knows, maybe even some more expensive vehicles.

build it...and back to DTM with it please Opel!
The Calibra fans need a replacement...
Just a little correction the Holden Monaro (based on Opel Omega B platfrom) was never sold as Opel Monaro... only as Vauxhall because they did not turn it into left side drive... in the UK they drive on the same wrong side as in Aussi..

Winding Road's current issue is calling this out as the 2010 Saturn Aura Coupe. If that does hold true, it could wind up being a nice competitor for the new Altima Coupe and 2008 Accord Coupe. Fun stuff.

If that's true, based on the power and drivetrain specs, I think direct competitors would be upmarket. Think 350z and G37.
