VW crafts a bitchin' race camper

The Volkswagen Van Centre in the Welsh city of Cardiff has created a very cool custom weekend race camper for motorcycle and/or ATV riders. Using a Euro-market long-wheelbase, high-roofed VW Crafter panel van as the basis, they've created an all-in-one race home that combines a garage fit for two bikes or one four-wheeler with a usable living space for its riders. On race day, an awning can be extended out from the side of the vehicle to provide additional shelter. The accommodations aren't exactly spartan, either, as the rig includes a kitchen, two double-beds, and a bathroom with shower. Neat! Complete details on the Crafter Race Home are in the release from VW, which is pasted after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE:
UNIQUE VOLKSWAGEN CRAFTER RACE HOME CONVERSION

The first bespoke conversion of a new Crafter into a Race Home for motorcycle racing has been developed by the Volkswagen Van Centre, Cardiff.

The Volkswagen Crafter Race Home not only offers facilities for transporting up to two motorcycles or a quad bike, but also provides an extremely comfortable and well-appointed base for weekend race meetings with hand-built furniture, leather upholstery, four-berths, double glazed windows throughout, blinds and flyscreens, and a heating system.

The luxurious specification also features an innovative curved kitchen design equipped with a microwave oven, refrigerator and three-burner gas hob with grill. The living quarters also feature a pull-out double bed, another high-level double bed plus a shower and a toilet.

Behind the living accommodation there is a tough and durable garage area with heavy-duty checker-plate flooring and walls and ceiling. There is ample storage space provided for tools, equipment and fuel, plus anchor points to secure the bikes.

'We wanted to develop a durable but luxurious vehicle with a bespoke design built to the highest standard,' said David Pugh-Jones, Managing Director of the Volkswagen Van Centre, Cardiff. 'Our Crafter Race Home is the culmination of 12 months detailed research to ensure that all workmanship fully meets Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' quality standards.'

The conversion was carried out by Tui Motor Caravans in Doncaster using a Crafter long wheelbase high roof panel van with a 2.5-litre 136 PS diesel engine as the base vehicle, and costs £39,995 plus VAT (£46,994 inc VAT).

The Volkswagen Crafter Race Home has already appeared at a number of motorcross events where it attracted keen interest, and it is scheduled to appear at British Enduro Championship meetings all over the UK during the rest of the year.
