Corvette speculation at Winding Road, contest to spend time with 'Vette designers

The new issue of Winding Road has hit the 'net and they've assembled a panel of experts to speculate on the future of the Corvette. Some of the discussion centers on the C7, while a sizeable portion of the article focuses on a mid-engine variant of the iconic coupe – including the rendering above.
Additionally, WR is inviting subscribers to enter a contest, where three lucky readers will be able to have a three-on-two session with Corvette Team Manager Doug Fehan and the vehicle's chief engineer, Tom Wallace.
If you're not a subscriber click here, and if you win the contest, be sure to take notes and send anything you're not legally bound to keep secret our way.

Another front drive SS model and a mid engined Corvette. I'm glad GM sticks to its roots.

all they did was photoshop the caddy cien concept... that seems to be winding road's specialty

Actually, David E. Davis, Jr's specialty is putting out high quality magazines...this one just happens to be in digital format.

This should be a Cadillac and have the premium pricing. Corvette must stick to the value equation or it will die.

If they were to switch to a mid-engine layout the everday usability of the vette would disappear. Not to mention with the front engine layout they are kicking everyone's butts.

Corvette should always remain FR
Cadillac should get an MR supercar, such as just putting the Cien to production.

Might as well add "Lamborghini" to the list of tags for this article since the rendering is half Lambo.

Corvettes are driven by 50 year olds to the car wash and the car cruise. And by building contractors who cruise the strip with them.
Who cares where the engine is located?
If theyre gonna build a midengine car, it should be a new Fiero - something that autocrossers can afford.

Is that a caddy cien photoshopped? sure as shit looks like it. The only way gm's going to survive is if they come up with some original ideas and put money into their lower end vehicals so they don't look like tupperwear on wheels on the inside and have the quality of a used paper bag.

Whatever, dudes. That's a badass rendering. Though I'm left to wonder why a mid-engine car needs a hood scoop. :)

Not all of us who drive Corvettes are fifty year olds and/or contractors. I'm a twenty one year old student and I drive mine whenever there isn't rain or snow.

Forgot to mention - I do agree they should bring back the Fiero.

Yeah, except your dad bought it for you, and he's probably 50 years old.

Totally agree w/ the above posts... a vette isn't a vette w/o the engine in the front. I would flip if the Cien or a derivative of it came to production though.
P.S. There's a guy in NW Ohio who bought multiple (I think 4) Fiero's thinking they'd be worth tons of money in the future... who wants one (hahaha)?

I would like one. Are any GT or Formula models?

Almost no one wants a stock Fiero.
Just like almost no one wants an 84-88 Corvette.
Because those were the dark years when GM was doomed by unfavorable exchange rates, emmission controls, CAFE, poor management, and demanding unions.
But anyone who has driven an 88 (the only year with a decent suspension and brakes) Fiero with a properly executed drivetrain upgrade knows what a sin it was for GM to kill the project just when it was getting good.

Forgot to say... I love the Cien concept and the above Corvette concept. Very original design.
We just need to understand that this would be a low volume speciality vehicle and be out of most folks price range.

What's with the ram air scoop on the hood if it's mid engine?

Lazy ass WR... A few simple changes would have made it look a lot better (though it's still not something I would want to see). Here's my version -
