C63 AMG ready to eat M3's breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert
It looks like Mercedes is ready get serious about handling performance matching the impressive might of its AMG engines. Autocar reports that the C63 "has been designed from the ground up to make the best of the 6.3-liter engine." To do so, the C-Class Crusher will take elements from the CLK63 Black Series, including portions of the car's front subframe. It will also get the Advanced Agility Package, which creates a "Sport" mode and supposedly the kind of backroad manners that Mercedes hasn't been known for. An exact horsepower number for the car has been hard to come by -- Mercedes wants to demonstrably outdo the competition, without intruding on the E63. Or that's been the story up to now. We reported earlier that the hp number would be 450, but Autocar says, achtung!, 500 bhp. That's only 7 shy of the much more expensive E63. If that's true, Mercedes will have to do something grand with it's middle-rung monster, which mean good times ahead. As for the C, with the new M3 to be offered as a wagon, you'll also have the option to get a hauler-version C63. Still, it's too bad that all versions will only come in automatic.
Thanks for the tip, PD

pretty sweet but sounds like it will cannibalize on E63 sales... unless they're planning on coming out with a new E class this fall as well.

>I< give a crap. I'm loving Mercedes' attitude lately. No coop with BMW, no gentlemans agreements. They gun at everyone whos a potential competitor. Excellent automotive development I'd say.

Oh, and yes, enter the rumor mill, the next E AMG is supposed to have a 700hp lump in it.

Bart's post got me thinking...
Maybe the 6.3L NA Engine is a replacement for the 5.5L NA Engine, not the 5.5L supercharged one, and the E, S, SL, etc. classes will get supercharged 6.3L engines.

It's a 6.2L engine
and I think the new E63AMG will wear either a new supercharger or a twin turbo set-up for 700HP and somethign north of 650lb-ft
it only makes sence, since Audi RS6 is claiming 630HP+
All thing considered, MB has always had the sweetest engines and they'll make sure they stay on top.
Now ony if they could dial in just a tad more sportiness, i'd be willing to give up the manual transmision and settle up for the new up-coming suprise tranny they are working on, you'll see.

700HP may have to come soon as Audi is starting to claim 650HP+ for teh new RS6 and MB just can't let that be the fastest 4door sedan.
BMW needs to catch up on power with the M5 soon as well.
the M3 will not suffer much from this C-class AMG, but i'd pick the AMG over the M3 or RS4
