Audi goes up, Lamborghini goes down. Just as the R8, which wasn't really supposed to compete with the Gallardo, is getting revved up for a V10 transplant, the less expensive Gallardo could be going downmarket, swapping adding a V8 model to accompany the current V10. Admittedly its speculative, but sources and pics from the 'Ring indicate to World Car Fans the possibility of a V8 Gallardo with a revised fascia, altered exhaust treatment, and a less raucous exhaust roar than the V10. If true, that would mean we'll have two different versions of an Audi supercar (perhaps a third if a diesel engine is offered) and an "affordable" Lamborghini. Who saw that coming?

i don't understand this. it doesn't make much sense. why take the gallardo downmarket? they've already got a 2 years waitlist on the expensive ones. it's not like they've got excess production that they're trying to sell off...

I call BS on this article.....It makes no sense at all....Lamborghini have mentioned more than a couple of times about how it's very important that they preserve the brand name by even limiting the amount of cars they produce...This is something Porsche would do, not Lamborghini.

V10 option MSRP is $180,000. With the new V8 Lambo, you get less 2 cyclinders but gain 2 new ones below for only $175,000! Now everyone can afford one! Thats driving excitement! Time to rethink Lamborghini! Mission Accomplished!

is it possible that this is a contingency plan if Europe enacts dramatic carbon reduction legislation?

i hope they dont, my neighbor has a gallardo spyder and the engine absolutely screams when he revs it. If they tamed that thing to a v8 it just wouldn't be the same. I really hope they dont do that to the gallardo.
If they MUST build a 'cheap' lambo... make an entirely new one, or just rebadge/retune that r8.

Audi is testing the diesel in the lambo skin.
Why would anyone thing a crossplane crank would be quieter (LRLLRLRR) than an even firing V10 LRLRLRLRLR
It isn't, so that means it is the turbo diesel V8.

These guys make a variable exhaust, (muffled & straight) it looks so convoluted because they want all the exhaust to come out both tips all the time.
Even when ripping through the straight exhaust, the even firing and the equalization from left & right banks keep it within reason.

Is there any way to host the pictures here?
WorldCarFans doesn't work for me (just loads the ad at the top of the screen and does nothing).
