Chrysler to announce third plant to build new Phoenix V-6 engines

On Wednesday June 13 Chrysler will be announcing a third plant to build its new generation Phoenix V-6 engines. In recent weeks, Chrysler has already broken ground on a new plant in Trenton, MI and announced plans to build a second plant in Saltillo Mexico. The third plant will be the existing Kenosha, WI plant that they inherited when they bought American Motors.
The 1.9 million square foot Kenosha plant will be retooled to build the new engines. All the usual state and local politicos will be hand to take their share of the credit for keeping jobs in Kenosha. Production of the new engines should begin in 2009.

Actually this is a new family of V6's developed with Mercedes to replace the 2.7 thru 4.0L V6's in Chrylsers line-up. Not only will they be technologically advanced(VVT-Direct Injection) but they'll be fuel efficient and powerful.
I had no clue they were going to three plants. The first two both have a capacity of around 440,000 engines per year. I wonder far this plant will push that number over the 1 million per year mark.

Will Hillary be there to nasally pronounce it good?
All said, 440k engines plus a third plant, thats a lotta engines... I guess they have faith that this will be a widely used/ easily adaptable engine with that kind of number...

For some reason this is listed under I.C.E.
Now usually on autoblog they use I.C.E. for in car entertainment, not internal combustion engine. Which is it?
Or is it entertaining being in this car wondering when your engine will blow up?

EMTs want you to put your home no. on your cellphone for In Case of Emergency.
Is this a spare engine for the glovebox, or a spare engine for when electric motors give out....

Huh????
I wonder if the Saltillo plant is to compensate for the plant that was to launch in Germany. Maybe it still will...
Good to see that Chrysler is getting on the bus, too. GM will be down to 2 V6's shortly, While Ford still has 4 different motors.
I wonder what benefit the 4.7L V8 still has. Seems like a short-stroke Hemi would do the same thing with unified parts.

Actually, the 4.7 has been updated for 2008. It's got Dual Spark Plugs now(like the HEMI) It's still SOHC, but it puts out 290-310hp/330lbft.(depending on the application) now. Which is VERY competetive....
Toyota 4.7: 271hp
Ford 4.6: 248hp
GM 4.8/5.3: 295/315hp

Thank goodness, if I buy a Chrysler I can search for one with an engine made by Americans.
