More on the Porsche 928 successor
While Porsche is trying to take over the European automotive arena by gobbling up more and more shares of VW, it also has to keep its eye on the competition and continue to come up with killer products. The concept that seems closest to production right now is the four-door Panamera, which should arrive by 2009. The issue with a front-engine Porsche sedan is that it has nothing else with which to share its platform, unless the hot as hell 928 comes back to life.We told you last year that the 928 would share about 60% of its parts with the Panamera, and production would begin around 2011. Since both vehicles will be more GT than sports car, the Bentley Continental GT seems like a natural corporate part donor, though powertrains are likely to be exclusive between the two brands. The GT coupe market has been ablaze of late, with entries like the V8 Vantage, Continental GT, and M6 winning praise and buyers, so we can't see Porsche sitting on the sidelines for long. Besides, heavily disguised Porsche mules have been seen testing, so it seems as though the 928 is close to a done deal.

Porsche Already has an answer for the Bentley, BMW and Aston, its called the 911.
If you know your Porsche History, the 928 was brought in for one reason; to replace the 911. At the time, 911 development had almost stopped, and the model was being phased out.
The situation today is much different, and a GT coupe would suck sales from a strong 911.

While the 911 is nice, its not quite a GT. It lacks the class and luxury and sophistication. And definitely the exclusivity. Not that M6's are all that exclusive. I miss the 928, and was hoping the Panamera would have been more the flavor of the the 928, and not just a stunted Cayenne station wagon. This will be a smart move, cant wait to see it!

Hmm...The M6 is not exclusive huh?! I see a heck of a lot more Bentley GT's than M6's in Chicago and other places. A 911 is certainly not at all exclusive. Unless you are hangin out with a bunch of track monkeys..they are seldom even noticed. My M6 has a lot of street presence and it certainly gets responded to like it is exclusive! It is a subjective description so I really don't care but please do not belittle the M6. It is the fastest, hotest GT on the road right now. Believe it!!!

Finally. I've always loved the 928. Well, the 928S4 that is. Damn-it! I'm gonna need yet ANOTHER job. Why can't I just retire as scheduled!?!?!
But no...these automakers keep tempting us with these wonderful works of art and power. I can't take it!!!

The M6 is a great car, but for $100,000, I'd take a 911 with a GT3 kit any day of the week.
I live in Atlanta and see 650's all day long. I hardly ever see M6's, however, most people can't tell the difference anyway... unless they are car buffs.
I had an M3 Convertible and loathed in it's performace. I used to get pissed with someone would compare my M3 to Jenny's 328. I don't see how the M6 would be any different.
I'm sorry, but Porsche > BMW (In the GT arena).
