Spy Shots: 2008 Honda Accord V6
Chris Doane has done it again. The latest Accord to be caught by this ace spy photographer is apparently the 2008 Honda Accord V6. Note the dual rear exhausts when you click through to see the full-size pics at Straightline. Another lightly-disguised sedan undergoing final testing, this V6 differs little from the previous base sedan we showed you a couple of weeks ago. Slightly different 7-spoke wheels and a sunroof are the only apparent changes besides the dual pipes out back. Oh, and one interior shot shows a fairly large binnacle for the nav system in the top center of the dash. Not meant to set the design world atwitter, the new Accord is inoffensive if not handsome. The sedan styling echoes that of the Accord coupe that was unveiled as a concept last January in Detroit and has also been captured by Brenda Priddy & Company. Lacking the honeycomb grille of the coupe, the sedan offers a slightly more mainstream look that should continue to win hundreds of thousands of buyers annually in the midsize sedan segment.
Rumors suggest those buyers will find a bit more personality under the hood, via a new 3.5L V6 with at least 270 horsepower on tap. Lower emissions and and better mileage are expected too, thanks to Honda's new cylinder deactivation feature. Looks like we'll be getting a new acronym in the process (VTEC, ftw!). Production of the new Accord should start in September or October with deliveries to dealerships arriving not long after.

The Civic was certainly a design departure for Honda. The Accord is most certainly an exercise in the 'knock-off'. Hyundai should be flattered because I see so many Sonata lines in this Accord.

Embarrassing. Honda has now traded in blandness for flagrant imitation.

I do NOT like the look of this new HYONDA.

they better add some more juice, its cheaper to get a Camry with 268 horses than it is to get an Accord with only 244 horses.
maybe without all the tape on the exterior it will look better.

A: "Can't wait to see the next Mazda 6!!"
B: "But this post is about the 08 Accord..."
A: "Like I said: 'Can't wait to see the next Mazda 6!!' "

tail end looks like last model Audi A6 rounded trunk. Also it seems bullkier from the rea-door window back. Is it tied into the Acura RL any more....?

Well, at least cars like the Sebring aren't bland.

The Sonata is a totally generic-looking car, so it stands to reason that lots of other cars would look like it purely by coincidence. Still, the new Accord design, while clean, is quite boring...especially when Honda did such bold redesigns of the CR-V and Civic.

I love my current Accord (99), but i feel this is just...blah. Especially that grill and center stack.

If the Accord has 270hp, what is the point of the TL?
A good question was why didn't honda make cylinder shutoff standard on all V6 accords years ago, instead of just the 'hybrid' model?
Probably same old 5 speed auto. Nothing new here, move along.

Just when I think Honda is ready to come out with a car that will finally bury the domestics, they come out with this...

They knocked off the new C-class tailights pretty quick.

The 2008 Accord looks fine and must appeal to a wide audience. It's clean and elegant and all it must do is be more appealing than the Camry which it seems to be IMO.
The interior and driving dynamics are likely to be first-rate--the Accord will continue to be among the best cars you can buy for its price.
Like it or not, the roads will be replete with new Accords a year from now because it'll continue to be the best car in its class.

Honda guys are really good at making blend looking cars. Just took all the styling cues from all the cars on the market and put them together, Brilliant! It's neither cool or ugly, a perfect balance in designing an average mid-class family sedan driven by average Joe.

Bland maybe. Look like a Hyundai or an Audi or Saturn, maybe.
Have consistantly high quality, strong steering response/handling for front-wheel-drive, superior resale, interior won't look like crap after 5 years, definitely...
There are positives and negatives to being the automotive equivalent of a pleasant appliance... At least you know what they are in advance.
"Bury the domestics"? I don't think Honda is really concerned with that pursuit after wining C&D Top 10 for 21 of 25 years with the Accord.
You get what you pay for in the case of a Honda. That is not the case of many other makes. Keep in mind Honda has never has needed to inflate their sales with fleet and rental car company deep discounts, can you say that about many domestics and some other Asian imports?
Ask yourself a couple of questions:
o Do you buy a car because a person on TV says it is a better product (if it was, it would sell itself, and you wouldn't be a Lemming...)
o Do you like inferior interior materials and workmanship
