2008 Scion tC pricing announced

The Scion tC is a nice little value-oriented coupe, and it's set to continue offering a nice bang for the buck with the '08 edition, which'll hit dealerships later this month. Changes are minimal but noticeable when you take a good look at the car. New grille inserts, projector-beam headlamps with blacked-out housings, and more detailed taillamps, are joined by some new-for-'08 interior trim elements. In terms of amenities, the tC's stock Pioneer stereo gets full iPod integration (track info, etc is displayed on the head unit's screen, and music can be controlled from the stereo or steering-wheel-mounted controls), and a premium Pioneer unit offers a degree of customization via downloadable skins. Above that, an optional nav system is available for the first time.
All cars receive seat-mounted side airbags as well as side-curtain airbags, and Scion throws in the first two scheduled maintenance visits to boot. The blank-slate tC Spec Package receives the grille, interior, radio and safety updates. Pricing for the manual-transmission-equipped tC is $17,000. Tack on an extra $800 for the automatic. The tC Spec Package comes in at $15,000 with a manual and $16,100 with an automatic. The prices are slightly higher than the outgoing '07s, and likely reflect the increased level of standard equipment and features. Full details are included in the press release from Scion after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE:
Scion Announces Pricing for 2008 tC
TORRANCE, Calif., May 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Scion, of Toyota Motor Sales,
U.S.A., Inc., announced pricing today for the 2008 tC sports coupe and tC Spec Package models. The 2008 tC and tC Spec Package will be available at dealerships next month.
The core model tC receives freshened styling, new standard equipment and safety features for 2008. Exterior changes include a new upper mesh grille, lattice lower grille, projector-type low beam headlights with black trim, and rear tail lights similar in style to the tC's headlights with round combination lamps. The tC also receives a deep orange combination meter on the instrument panel, silver-colored accents on the door assist grips and center cluster, updated seat fabric and a Pioneer subwoofer located under the cargo area.
Like all 2008 Scion models, the tC comes standard with seat-mounted side airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, and two complimentary factory- recommended maintenance services, at 5,000 and 10,000 miles, at any Scion or Toyota dealer. The factory recommended maintenance includes an oil change, a tire rotation, a visual brake inspection, and the topping off of washer fluid.
Apple iPod connectivity becomes standard on all 2008 Scion models. Scion's standard 160-watt maximum output Pioneer AM/FM/CD audio system features a head unit with iPod control. This head unit integrates track, artist and album information from the iPod into a one-line display on the head unit's screen. Connectivity is achieved by simply plugging the iPod into a port via a connector cable, providing outstanding sound quality through the car's stereo system and constant power to the iPod. Music is controlled through the head unit, steering wheel audio controls or iPod. A standard mini-jack port also allows users to listen to their portable music collection through the tC's Pioneer speakers.
Scion also offers a Pioneer Premium audio system that adds the ability to download "skins" to play on the organic electroluminescent (OEL) faceplate. Customers can download images, four-second video clips and eight-second movies from Pioneer's website. Pioneer software also allows customers to burn their own images and movies onto a CD and upload them onto the available head unit. The premium audio system also has head unit outputs on the rear for the addition of external amps.
New to the accessory line up for the 2008 model year is the Scion navigation system. The system features a 160-watt maximum power audio/video/navigation unit with seven-inch LCD touch screen.
The tC Spec Package model, a blank canvas for the tuner community to express its creativity, also receives the grille, deep orange combination meter and silver-colored interior accents in addition to the new airbags
and iPod connectivity across the Scion line-up.
The tC Spec Package will have a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $15,300 for a manual transmission and $16,100 for an automatic transmission, an increase of $300, or 2.0 percent and 1.9 percent
respectively. With the additional standard equipment, the base MSRP for the core model tC is $17,000 for the manual transmission and $17,800 for the automatic transmission, an increase of $600, or 3.7 percent and 3.5 percent respectively. MSRP does not include delivery, processing and handling fees, which vary depending on location.

What's up with that huge gap between the hood and the rest of the car? I'd take a Mazda 3 over this thing any day of the week.

I'll take BMW M over Mazda 3 any day of the week

That gap does look hideous.
I'm really hoping that gap just looks funky in the photo and not in reality. If not, I'm prepared to make the craziest statement ever: I would prefer a '08 Focus to a '08 tC.
Even without the gap, I believe that $17K would be better spent on a Mazda3 or a Civic.

This car looks like a Hyundai Tiburon.

Toyota is starting to take the Scion into too expensive territory and that can only mean Toyotas will increase in price as well sooner or later. Hyundai will get some extra sales if they keep their prices right and if those Chinese cars that come over are decent, they will have a chance to be successful I think as well.

"You'd rather buy a Civic or Mazda3"
The Mazda3 doesnt come in a coupe version. A similarly equipped Civic is 10-15% more with 10% fewer ponies and w/o that slick rear sunroof. Civic's advantage may be that it has more trunk room.
If you want a sedan, this isnt even on your radar.

A coupe? This isn't even a coupe, it's a hatchback.

Good luck finding one for those prices. I do like the tail lights about 100% better. Much better than the sunfire looking ones they use to have. I almost bought one when they first came out. Couldn't get the options and color I wanted. Even though it was listed in the order sheets. The dealer gave me my deposit back after months of phone calls.

Yea, its to slow and heavy to be a sports car???? Yea, like the Civic is faster?
Did you know that there is an available supercharger that'll blow a TSX off the road for thousands less.
Even without it, it goes to 60 in about 7 seconds, for just over $15K. Plus it's a Toyota and will run forever.

What on earth are you talking about? Did you reply the wrong person? th'hell?

Going to wait for the redesigned TC. It should blow everything else out of the water.

As much as I like this car for that price. It really needs more hp, or get rid of the glass roof....The car (clocked at almost 3k lbs) is simply too heavy to be a "sporty" car.

Once again, with Toyota less costs more. For the price of the new Scion, one can buy more vehicle if one is astute enough to check out the Big 3. The Tokyo 3 are now on the run-their days of being able to spin less as more are fading rapidly.
