Spy Video: Porsche GT2 beats the 'Ring into submission

We've been inundated with a ton of spy shots in the last 24 hours – some more compelling than others. But it's a real treat when the static shots are replaced with actual movement, especially when it's something as marvelous as the new Porsche GT2.
We've seen our fair share of the Turbo-derived racer, but the video after the jump shows the new GT2 making its way around the Nurburgring at a breakneck pace.
As previously mentioned, the GT2 will dispatch the Turbo's AWD system in favor of a traditional rear-drive setup, and along with a minimalist interior, the GT2 will tip the scales around 3,275 pounds. Partnered with the 530 HP twin-turbo 3.6-liter six, and one of the most delectable suspensions this side of the Le Ponte De Normandi, it's easy to see why the lucky test driver can roll flat out through the bends.
We'll be on hand to see the GT2 unveiled in Frankfurt later this year, with sales likely to begin in November. In the meantime, jump.

I don't know, I'd rather have the "normal" Turbo. The AWD is fantastic and worth the extra 250 pounds or whatever. The Turbo still does 0-60 in 3.8 sec. Plus, the normal Turbo has A/C and other creature comforts in the cabin - I'm guessing the GT2 might have A/C deleted, and they explicitly stated that it has a stripped interior.
The VP of my company has a Turbo and I've been in it - quite a ride. :)

I'm not even a Porsche fan, but the GT models are damn impressive. I had been waiting for the GT2 to make an appearance. I've driven the 997 Turbo and I practically fell in love. It would be hard for me to lose the A/C and other creature comforts for some extra performance in the GT2, but the GT2 is still pretty tempting. Obviously better suited for owners who would take thier GT2 on the track.

agreed with what Braden said. no point having 0.3 sec quicker on public road while losing all the luxury features. Pearl color of the year? Pearl F430, Pearl Gallardo and now Pearl GT2? Love the all

Actually, its unlikely that you'll have to lose any creature comforts. The 997 GT3 has all the same interior upgrade options availible as a standard 911 or 911 turbo. This means you can have leather, ac, sports seats, sat nav, phone (basically everything). I'm an 997 owner and have confirmed this with my local Porsche dealer. I'm assuming the GT2 will be similar in this respect. The new 911 GTs also have variable suspension settings to make them more practical daily drivers. Porsche has made a deliberate attempt to make them usable on the road. The GT3 RS is, of course, a different animal. It is only availible with the most basic trim.
