Chrysler's Tom LaSorda webcast at 1:30 PM EST

You too can front like you're a member of the press when Chrysler CEO and President, Tom LaSorda addresses questions from the seething throngs during a press conference today at 1:30 PM EST. Naturally, the topic of conversation will be the sale of Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management. We're not entirely sure that anything new will be discussed, as the topic has been beaten into the ground after only one day, but regardless we'll pay rapt attention to the Mr. L. And since it'll be after noon, we might try to come up with a drinking game to make it more interesting.

Don't blame LaSorda for the shenannigans of the thieving Germans. Judge him from here forward.

Two different people with the same name beanspants.
Mr. Oak I hope you are right. I didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling from him when he allowed Joe Eberhardt to run up the sales bank". But Joe was a Daimler executive and maybe he was ordered to leave him alone by Daimler.
Tom is also an ex-GM'er and the last ex-GM'er running Chrysler was Bob Eaton, who sold his soul to the Daimler Devil (I hope he spends eternity in a broken down Mercedes with the German mechanic telling him it's the best car made).

Zetsche gets promoted to CEO of Daimler because of his perceived success at setting Chrysler straight -- and then it all falls apart. Lucky he got out before things caught up with him. Chrysler's problems didn't come about overnight.

I say let Chrysler die. Its cars have poor styling, cheap interiors, and are technologically behind the curve. Chrysler has one of the lowest MPG fleetwide average of any manuacturer. The market share of Chrysler can be eaten up by GM and Ford, so perhaps many of the Chrysler employees can be absorbed there.
One of the first things these equity firms do when landing a big deal such as this one is to hire PR people to spin it immediately. Could you imagine the shock of Cerberus admitting up front "Hey, we are are pulling a Gordon Gecko here. No hard feelings. It's just business." The PR spin here -- Oh, we have no plans NOW to lay anyone off, We are committed FOR THE MOMENT of turning the company around -- ends up delaying the inevitable -- when Cerberus ends up gutting the company, spinning off Jeep, and selling any valuable Chrysler intellectual property to competitors.

When you're a corporate exec things don't catch up with you, your incompetence merely gets you promoted to another part of the company. Only average joes get fired for incompetence. I doubt the board gives a flip about whether he actually produced or not.

As a Chrysler employee I can see that Cerberus is just a loan company for now. Tom LaSorda and his management team have been given a certain amount of money and time to bring (Chrysler) back. They either become profitable soon or it will be chopped up.
