This bh platform seems to be the entire essence of hyundai for the next cople of years, and i see it posing prommisng results. Its not clear to me the point of hyundia and kia just yet, because i was assuming the hyundais was to become a lexus fighter, while kia went were hyundia is now, but i see little to no demarkation in products, and i am thinking this merger may go a little further. Cant wait to see how this turns out for Hyundai and the entire industry

Kwesi

Comments on

Car-based pickups work best when it's clearly just a car with a bed. That's why I like the El Camino, Holden & Ford Utes, Subaru Baja (and the classic BRAT/Brumby), etc.

But I hate how Honda is trying to market the Ridgeline as a truck. They've styled it with proportions that make it look like it's a truck and not just a car with a bed, which killed any appeal the Ridgeline might have had.

If Hyundai's smart, they'll just chop the top half off the back of the Genesis and not try to proportion it like a truck.

jgp

Comments on

I agree, cars that can tow, haul and retain the desirable qualities of a car are superior to gigantic, V6-only trucks like the Ridgeline. Nearly every review of the Ridgeline I've read has noted V8-like fuel consumption. What's the point then? Why not just get a Tundra or another real truck?

I think with fuel prices going up and the mass exodus from SUVs there's a market for cars like the Australian Utes in the US. People who love cars but want to run to Lowe's every once in awhile or haul something in the back. All without the stinging fuel bills and driving dynamics penalty.

GM can't sell the upcoming Ute SS here soon enough.

TriShield

Comments on

Here's why the BH-platform C-U-T would be a great idea: low development costs. They already have the platform. They already have the engines. They really just need to design a chassis to ride the platform, make some model mixes, and do some advertisement--that's all it would take.

More importantly, having this kind of vehicle would position Hyundai head to head with Honda, even more so than as of today. This is exactly what Hyundai wants. They want you to compare (objectively nonetheless) Hyundais with Hondas. Why? It's because they are VERY CONFIDENT that they will come out on top. Why? They have VERY COMPETENT products.

So does Honda? Yes. Honda, however, doesn't have good prices, and to some people that "Honda magic" seems like "expensive plastic." Hondas are appliances, for better or worse. Hyundais have personality. I guess you could say the same for Honda...but it would be the personality of a tripping ASIMO (over Hyundai's cleverly placed leg).

Neal M

Comments on

Build it and they will come...

Just as long as it has a cargo bay longer than the damn baja!

A waterproof lockbox built under the floor of the bed bed would be essential-for laptops and stuff like that.

Alexis

Comments on

.............................

the EL KOREA-MINO!!!!

If GM can't get it together, I guess the idea is fair game. It's not a bad truck at all. Just old. I think Hyundai is wasting their time. If Honda makes one and it doesnt sell very well, what makes them think people are going to shell out for a Hyundai truck? A car/truck is better suited to those who don't "use" a truck but loose out without "Macho" appeal. Small pickups came with four cylinders and eventually V6s as an option.
